This is a quote from my local exodus board. WDYT?
I'm not sure if things have changed... but information I received years ago shows that most of their business and sponsor purchases doesn't come from forum activity. In fact, the forums are very low on the priority list and isn't a big money maker. I'm actually a bit surprised they are putting so much time in reformatting the boards. They've made changes in the past and most people find their way back. They are the big dogs in the wedding industry so I'm sure they aren't worried about bringing new people in. Unfortunately, they aren't in the business of making "the little people" happy... they are more concerned with climbing the money ladder. I don't see the actual business failing any time soon but I'm sure most of the regulars will find a new place to hang out (like we did). Maybe that is their goal.. out with the old, in with the new?
i do think that c_joy referring to us as "customers" is pretty funny. it's not like we pay for the service. they're not indebted to us or are required by terms of a contract to supply US a service.
We are their customers, though. The people who give you page views are the ones who bring you advertisers and passive income and chasing them off/pissing them off is mind numbingly stupid. The nest completely shit the bed on this issue and the weird part is that everyone could see it coming from miles away. Whoever green-lighted these changes without further tweaking or beta testing is a complete and total fucking idiot.

Well, that may be true. In which case...whatever. I'm happy with these boards, and even if they finally fix the functionality issues (which I doubt), the Nest format still sucks.
either way, we're still not the customers. it's semantics, but i can just see NK yelling "FUCK YOU!!! YOU'RE NOT OUR CUSTOMER YOU FUCKING IDIOT!!!!!" at the screen after c_joy posted that.
Yes, I am a fucking idiot. Whatever. I was pretty annoyed when I wrote it and I think people understood what I meant. Our clicks and page views are the reasons advertisers pay money to put ads up.
to be clear, i wasn't calling you a fucking idiot. i assume that was what NK was thinking as she was reading your post, especially after getting her ass reammed out on that thread.

Yeah, we aren't the customers. We are their fucking PRODUCT. Visitors are what they sell to their advertisers. And a big chunk of their product just walked off. The Idiot Product is getting uppity.

If we're not their consumers then they aren't making full use of their business model. I posted this somewhere yesterday: IF you put ads for things I might be tempted to buy and IF you made use of us for market research you could make some $ off of us. They just have their heads too far up their butts to figure out how to do that.
I've been thinking this for awhile, that they actually don't give a shit (shit! Not shits!) nor should they, because we don't make them any $.
Yes, ads, and that's presumably the sole income of TN. But I rarely get served any ads besides those for TN itself, or maybe it's shop. Also, the forum users don't seem like the type to buy things from the ads we do see. I mostly see complaining and mocking, if not outright boycotting.
OTOH, if I've learned anything about marketing ppl, it's that get huge boners over page views and "impressions" and couldn't give two licks about actual ROI. OTOH, I've also seen others in orgs (like finance ppl) have little patience for that nonsense.
If this were my company, I could totally see the CFO pressuring IT/webdev to roll a bad update in a passive aggressive move against ad sales.
I'm not saying TN is that dysfunctional, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Lol. I'm not calling you a fucking idiot, I'm just saying I could see how other people would think you're a fucking idiot.
no, it's not that either. i can see how a fucking idiot could call someone who is pissing her off a fucking idiot. is that clearer?

But when they pitch the nest to advertisers (the advertisers that they pair with on the body of the site - not the chat boards) They cite the hits their website gets. And the majority of those hits are from the message board section. We go, their numbers go. They are selling us to those advertisers. When our numbers drop so does their sales pitch.

Frankly I think they see the nest as a holding zone between selling bridal gear and baby gear. A purge of already married mothers who aren't going to become new bump customers might be a good long term strategy (out with the old to make room for new eager newlyweds) but it wrecks their short-term numbers.
I've always thought that the NYC ladies who run the nest, etc were secretly mortified that a bunch of other ladies spend so much time on an Internet message board. I mean why aren't we buying manolos, drinking cosmos, and getting boinked by Aiden?

If anyone has any interesting ideas on how to fuck with XOXO's share price based on this mass exodus there are at least one or two of us who'd love to play.
