I'm considering white subway tile with white grout in our shower. Is this a mistake? If you don't think it's a mistake, how do you keep your grout shiny and new?
Did it and yes, I regret it. Our tile is gorgeous, but the grout is damn near impossible to keep clean and, in some cases, permanently stained. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely get a darker grout.
Its not very fun to clean. Depends what kind of grout, if your going with white grout, def get the more expensive stuff, not the cheapy stuff. Our house came with white tile with the cheaper grout- it looks awful. Consistently scrubbing the floors.

don't do it. we had it in both the kitchen & the bathroom (floor only) and it always looked dirty no matter how much I scrubbed it. IN a shower - think about how quickly mold and or hard water stains are going to show... I don't know of ANY shower that doesn't have at least a little mold.
Depending on the shape of the tile you're using, gray/dark grey grout can look really classy (especially with subway tiles).
We're using white grout in 2 bathrooms. We decided to use grout boost for the walls and epoxy grout for the floors. I was told they work great. I guess we'll see.
I have white tile and grout on my bathroom FLOOR. It came with the house, I NEVER would have put it in, especially considering my dark hair and our black cat. But yea, it sucks. I imagine it would suck in te shower too. Not as much, but I def wouldn't pick it!
I used to live in a place with white tile and white grout. The grout looked horrible, and there was no amount of cleaning that could ever make it look better. The super white tile beside it just made it look worse.
I just spent three days on our bathroom floor with a container of baking soda, a bottle of peroxide, and a toothbrush cleaning the grout. I tried commercial cleaners but nothing got in there and whitened it enough. If/when we redo the bathroom, I am definitely going with a darker grout.

I have it only on the seat of a box window in my bathroom and, while I don't have the keeping-it-clean issues others talk about ... It. Is. Boring. I needed the white tile because nothing else would have matched the rest of the bathroom (it was a repair, not an installation) but I wish I had at least put a tint in the grout.
I think I'm a weirdo but I like the white because at least I know it's clean. It might be tougher to take care of but it's only because you don't see the grime on the darker grout. With that said, I never want a tiled shower again.
We have a shower with white tile and white grout. We just moved into the house in March, so I tried a couple things to get the grout clean when it was looking a little moldy. Last night I tried Scrubbing Bubbles with Bleach (which was recommended by someone on the Cleaning and Organizing board) and let it sit for a while before rinsing it. It cleaned the grout really well.
Also, I've heard suggestions to make sure you seal grout once per year to keep it looking clean.
We loathe ours -- we have white tile and white grout in our master shower. It's a huge shower also, and i hate it. Cleaning it is a nightmare and i don't stay on top of it. We are hoping to remodel it and change it out to a darker grout. We also have 1 bathroom counter with white tile and white grout. Horrible -- when DH shaves, his little hairs are left on the grout and if we don't clean it daily, it just looks dirty. It SUCKS!!! don't do it!

We have white tile floors in our dining room with a light gray grout and I love it. It's very easy to keep clean and we've had a lot of people comment on how much they love the white and gray together.
we have white/white in our shower and it is disgusting. we have hard water and it's all stained. i've scrubbed and scrubbed and it lightens, but it's never white. (this is a rental, so it wasn't my choice, but after dealing with it here i'd never put it in my own house when we buy.)

We looked at it when we remodeled our master bath. My neighbor swore by it, but then she also admitted she got down on her hands and knees and cleaned it with bleach. Not my cup of tea. We went with a light gray grout called silverado and I love it. We also got white subway tiles that had a bit of a wave to them. I can't describe it well, but they weren't completely flat. It made the wide expanse of white a little more interesting.
Also, FYI, there is a thing such as grout stain. It's like paint for your grout. Our downstairs bath may have had the original 1940s tile and white grout, but it was so gross looking. I did try to clean it with bleach and nothing worked. Our contractor found this stuff and we stained it dark gray. It looks so much better.
I could be totally wrong about this, but I feel like YHL has done something with white grout in a bathroom. They put some kind of sealant on it so that it wouldn't stain. Might be worth checking out.

Tile color doesn't matter. Grout color, well whites a bitch to keep clean. I like the look, but I just had both of the showers in my house regrouted. I'm hoping sealing the grout when it way first put in will make it better this time. Also the shower walls aren't too bad my issues were where the walls connected to the tub and the soap dish where water collects. If you are doing the floor to - there I really can't stand the white grout in my house all of it is grey except where noone stands, ex under the counter behind the toilet. Definitely use darker grout on the floor. No matter how much I scrub my floors never look really clean because of thee stained grout.

YHL featured my crazy neighbors who put white (including on bathroom floor grout) everywhere. The house is gorgeous, but its like a showroom. I'd be afraid to touch anything.
