This morning on the way to school, my son was browsing through his yearbook. He was looking at the seniors who are all allowed to have a small photo collage under their senior pic. He apparently was thinking about what photos he would pic if he were a senior (because apparently you need 6 years to start thinking about this).
He said, "I definitely want to make sure there is that one pic of me, dad and grandpa in Ohio in there. The rest can be of just me."
Deep down this kind of broke my heart a little because his dad is essentially a deadbeat and I do soooooo much for my son. But I do realize that he idolizes his dad and yearns for his attention. It just made me feel crappy for all the stuff I continue to do for him.
My little brother was like this too and my dad didn't give two shits about any of us. My little brother would sit on the top of the stairs watching the driveway because he thought my dad would show up for him....and he never did....and yet, he STILL (even to this day) idolizes that jack ass.
I believe your son is so vocal about his dad because he knows soemthing is missing and he is craving for that void to be filled. It doesn't mean he loves his dad more than you. It is infact the very opposite, he feels free to share his thoughts with you.
He will "get it" some day, just for now he has innocence in his mind still.
You are an awesome mom and never forget that for a moment.
