Like this one house - great house - perfect size, perfect lot, already fenced for the dogs, great price - not only does it back up to an industrial building, it's also 1 block from the Illinois river and only 20' above the high flood point from 2 years ago...

How frustrating. I found a gorgeous new build that had industrial buildings visible from the backyard. It would have been perfect almost ANYwhere else. Why?

We saw 2 more houses today.
The first was the 1925 house that backs up to the frat. The house was awesome, but it has a first floor master which is tough with 2 small kids, and it will need central ac and a new electrical system. There is a house next door, but it barely qualifies as a house. Yes it has walls/windows/floors/doors but that's it. No heat or water plus it doesn't feel structurally sound and many parts of the house feel TINY to me (and I'm only 5'5). The lots are the best thing about the two houses - just over an acre combined and they have mature fruit trees plus plenty of space & sun to plant a veggie garden.
The second house was a split foyer with an addition that was SO oddly laid out it was almost like a maze. Everywhere you went there were hallways and passages to other parts of the house.
