Because he's in the line of succession, I *think* the king has to announce the name to the Cabinet first. But the Danish royal family is more extreme----they don't announce baby names until the babies are baptized!
I agree that Gustaf and Olle will be in his names, and quite possibly Bertil. Maybe Carl instead of Gustaf, though perhaps she'll leave that for Carl Philip and Sofia. Other ideas: Oscar is another name that shows up a few times in the Bernadotte line. Princess Birgitta's (mostly estranged) husband passed away today. I don't know that Victoria would have been close to him, but maybe Johann or Georg will show up, especially if one of those names is also in the Sommerlath family.
mbcdefg, I thought of you as soon as I saw the news!

Yes, they're announcing the name at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow. Around 5-6 am Eastern time for us.
Prince Bertil was CP's godfather so I wonder if they'll let him have that name?
"Estelle" came out of almost nowhere so maybe they'll dig deep for this kid's name. I saw a royal blogger Tweet Oscar as her guess, too!
Estelle's are Prince Carl Philip, Daniel's sister Anna, King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.
I think this baby will have Princess Madeleine, and maybe one of Daniel's nieces? Royals: Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands, maybe King Felipe of Spain or King Philippe of The Belgians.

I'll go with Alexander, for no particular reason.
Yeah I'm pretty sure they will leave Bertil for Carl Philip. Especially if Carl Philip and Sofia are expecting a boy
I'm surprised the two grandfathers' names weren't used!
Daniel's dad's name, Olle, can be a given name or a diminutive of Ol- names, so it's kind of in there! Daniel's first name is Olof, so I love that he gets honored, too.

I actually thought they were. I mean Carl is. And I assumed Olof was after Daniel's father (it's also Daniel's second name) but a quick search in the public records tells me his name is really Olle. Olle is usually a nickname for Olof (like Charlie for Charles or similar) so I assumed that was his real name but I guess not.

I like your picks! I would add someone from the Danish royal family, maybe Joachim (my fave) or one of Benedickte or Anne-Marie's kids.
Thanks for posting this. I have Swedish ancestry and I like the Swedish royal family but I don't follow them that closely. I haven't looked at pics of Princess Estelle since she was a baby. So cute and I am glad that they are happy. Victoria used to suffer from an eating disorder years ago so it is great to see her looking so well.

They really do look like a happy, loving family! I hope they're as content as they seem to be in photos.
Did you see Estelle's fourth birthday portraits, and the new postage stamps with the king and his heirs? She's such a lovely little girl and she seems so cheerful.

No I didn't, thanks for sharing! My father attended a small reception for the current king and queen when they visited his part of the US probably 20+ yrs ago. (He is from an old historic Swedish-American community in the upper Midwest and the king and queen came on a short tour of it). The king is famous for being very stoic and quiet which he was. My father had a good impression of Queen Silvia who was very personable and kind of the soft, friendly counterweight to her husband.
Thanks again, I love Estelle's dresses in those photos.

Oh wow, that's really cool that your dad met them!
Also, the Tweet didn't identify Estelle's dress but I wonder if it's new or if it had been worn by Victoria as a child? Since Estelle has worn some vintage dresses for past occasions. I know there's a website that IDs what George and Charlotte Cambridge wear but I haven't seen one for other royal children.

Yes! I met Victoria in May 2010, when she visited Seattle. It was supposed to be a trip made by Madeleine, but when she broke her first engagement, her sister stepped in for her. I attended a gala dinner at which she was present and then was involved with giving her a tour and such the following day (if I say much more than that, I become Google-able). She was incredibly warm, genuine, very engaged, and had a great sense of humor. I remember watching her before she stepped into a crowded room----she drew a breath and gathered herself. It's obviously a very intense life.
A few years later, I was at a small reception where Carl Gustaf and Silvia, Harald and Sonja, and Mary were present. You have to be introduced to them, so I wasn't able to speak with everyone (and I was most interested in speaking with the then-president of Finland, one of my personal heroes). I did spend a fair amount of time at that reception with Harald, who is delightful, and SO IN LOVE with his wife. I met her briefly, with him, and they are ADORABLE. Even from across the room, Silvia oozes royalty. Of the pair of them, you would actually think that she had lived her whole life in the royal family.
