After a weekend of my Mabry not being able to get up and down on his own and not eating, we made the decision to end his suffering yesterday before even getting the biopsy results back. It wouldn't have mattered. He was in pure misery. For the second time, we enlisted the help of the vet from Laps of Love, a home euthanasia program that is nationwide. It's expensive, but more than worth it to make our boys last moments comfortable where he wanted to be. This was the post she put on FB this morning, our favorite picture from the day we got him and a picture my friend took of him on Sunday. You can just see in his eyes how done he was. In 2007 Dh and I had 3 dogs and now all 3 have gone
From time to time, I have the difficult privilege of helping a family say goodbye to a second cherished pet... about 1.5 years ago, I had the honor of meeting a sweet boy named Roscoe. I could tell that his family was one of the best... they loved both of their dogs dearly, and always wanted the best for them <3 Today, it was time for me to return to their home and help precious Mabry earn his wings <3 When he joined his forever family, he was a 4 month old, long & lanky Great Dane pup! He was spunky and full of fun and his family loved him from day one! Mabry grew and grew into a gentle giant! He spent much of his time being a lazy, cuddly boy <3 His family said that napping was one of his favorite things! He loved to cuddle and he quickly claimed the couch as his own <3 He was handsome and smart, and great with the human kiddos when they came along... life was wonderful for Mabry and his family <3 But then, at the age of 9, his family suddenly found a swelling on his spine... their worst fears were confirmed with testing - it was a tumor that was extensive and invasive - and their sweet boy was going downhill incredibly quickly. He didn't want to eat as much, he couldn't stand without help, and his eyes told his family he was done fighting this fight <3 So, bravely, they made the decision to set their boy free <3 He enjoyed a lot of snuggle time on "his" couch over the weekend, and then today his family sat by his side as he peacefully earned his angel wings. Rest well, sweet boy <3 You were deeply loved and will never be forgotten <3 Run free, and enjoy your reunion with Roscoe! <3

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy. Their tribute was so touching - what a gift that his last moments were spent not only with the family who loved him but also with a professional who valued and understood his contribution to your family.
