Ugh...what a mess. I'm thinking I'll drive to either Crystal City and Pentagon City and park. Then run to the MCM 10K start on the mall. I'll be in marathon training so I'll probably need more miles anyways.
They need to figure this shit out. Because the metro not being open is not really an option they should be considering. 30K people need to get Pentagon City. There is no way all those people can drive.

MCM just replied to my question by pointing to their updated FAQs. This is what it says:
How will Metro's SafeTrack affect the MCM?
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's SafeTrack initiative will begin in June 2016. This program involves an accelerated track work schedule intended to rehabilitate the Metrorail system to improve safety and reliability, altering the transportation practices of the residents, commuters and tourists across the national capital region for next ten months. Potential impact on the early opening across the Metro system on MCM morning, as well as periods of expanded service, has not yet been determined, as MCM continues to collaborate with various jurisdictional partners.
OK, so it is sounding like a nightmare now. I am booked into a (cancellable) hotel right near Farragut West station. If the metro doesn't run on Marathon day, I might pull out of this race. Everything about it is too much of a logistical headache.
ETA: it looks like the only shut down on the Metro is between Fort Totten and NOMA. The travel planner doesn't seem to allow you to plan anything as far out as October but it might still be alright. Or am I being thick? I need the blue line to be running.

I think you'll be fine if you're staying downtown. Even if Metro doesn't open early on race morning, you can easily take an uber or cab to the start line.
I live along the stretch of the red line that will be shut down on MCM weekend, so I have multiple concerns about transportation, but that's because of my particular situation.

You will be fine! Seriously, I will drive in the city and pick you up if I have to. But a cab and uber will work. I have faith that MCM will find a solution to this issue. They've been doing this race for over 40 years. They run a pretty good race for the most part.

Something something marines oorah get shit done something something
The race will go on. They will accommodate the field even with the metro issues even if they haven't figured out how yet.
Honestly it's the other races in the district that I'm way more worried about.
My thoughts exactly. MCM will get figured out. Smaller races that can't throw their 40 years of weight PLUS omg marines!! around? eeeeehhhh...
@cheshire there's a lot of local political backstory to the WMATA work schedule announcements that has lead to some excessively doom and gloom coverage in the media. For a while the headlines were that they were going to CLOSE IT ALL DOWN FOR 6 months!!! That, obviously, is not happening. I promise it'll be ok come fall. There will be an official plan from MCM. And if there isn't, the locals will make rides happen.
Trust me. I'm an expert. (no really...I'm a transportation engineer that works here)
If people need rides we can do a local caravan on sorts. Last time I ran we drove in from my house and were able to get with in 10 minutes of the start line. I imagine we can get folks that close again this year.

Check your email- they just sent out something with an option to skip packet pickup and have everything mailed for $30. National Harbor is totally out of the way for me, so it's more than worth the money. With that option, you pick up your shirts after the race. But since I'm not sure about the size I ordered, that works out perfectly in case I need to exchange it.

I don't think I got this. I wonder if the info is on the website.

If you didn't, pm me your email and I can forward it to you. It sounds per the email that it's limited availability so I would request it asap.

I signed up for it too. I wish the option were a tad cheaper, but it will free up a good amount of time for us.
I'm not running it but if I can get a babysitter can I still come down and play? I may even be good for a few miles to help someone push through those tough miles in the marathon.

I will be personally upset if you don't come. And yes, if you can run a few miles, I will be ecstatic to see you.

Wandering through to offer up our futon and/or pull out couch if anyone is still looking for a place to stay! I've got a baby who (like GT's) will be about 4mo old so take that into considerationZ. She's in our room so our 2nd br should be pretty quiet (living room is in between). taratru stayed here last year and can speak to logistics of getting to the start line etc. We are near the Virginia square metro station. Hopefully I can join in some of the race weekend festivities!
I'm going to keep cross training during the week since I have these triathlons that I am signed up for and a cycletta. This weekend I need to do an 8 miler as my first long run in nearly 2 months. I'm going to take it easy though. Casual pace. I need to remind myself I am not trying for a fast marathon time. This one is to meet up with you lovely ladies and to 100% enjoy the race. I know that whatever happens, I will finish it and that's enough this time.
After booking our Europe adventure, we realized we just don't have the funds for me to also do DC. I'm so sad I won't get to see everyone. But I will FO SHO be holding down the tracking fort here and be your ultimate virtual cheerleader. Perhaps even with Jesus lol.
