MH watches it but he also watched Downton. There is definite romance angle to it but I also find the historical aspects of the store and his life interesting, too.
Did you watch The Paradise on Netflix? It's the same premise I think. If so, which is better?
I haven't. I'll have to add it to the list since I'm half way through my re-watch of Gilmore Girls.
I'm still waiting on my refi to go through. They said it would take 30-45 days and I started the process exactly 30 days ago so I have no reason to be impatient ... but the waiting is killing me. This is one of the final steps before finalizing and filing my divorce and its killing me to wait!

I love my parents, but oh my, I'm so happy to have them gone. They came on short notice and watched my kids for a week and that is priceless, but their visit was too long and it has really highlighted how they are aging. My mother is turning into her mother and that makes me very sad.
My sister is the opposite. She comes late. And she usually is bringing something my dad asked her to make. And then she gets snippy. I go to my dad's early to help him out. Maybe you can have her do something to help out? put some food in bowls, entertain the kids?
My husband's brother and mother are like that. Everyone just tells them an hour earlier than the real start time. It works wonders.

Good luck on it finishing soon! Our refi was through Quicken Loans a few years ago and was FAST. Like a week or two. And my H handled it, so I was doubly impressed/shocked.

My Easter gathering for my family was to start at 2:30. I got back from church around 12:30 so I had ~2 hours to finish prep on the main courses and finalize the dishes I made the day before. My father in law texted my husband a few times to ask if he could come early to hide eggs. We said no, but after prodding, finally said yes. So he said he would be there 20 minutes early.
So FIL shows up w/MIL and SIL and her husband at like 2:10pm. That's half my guests. I was totally taken aback, I only expected FIL to be skulking around in the yard. I was annoyed at the early arrivals, I mentioned it sort of flippantly to FIL (ya know, I was only expecting you!) - but I felt so bad afterwards for being annoyed. Ugh.....IDK if I was right or I should have just rolled w/it. It seemed clear only FIL was showing up early (they live less than .5 miles away so not a travel issue).
MIL apologized later for showing early, I said it was fine and I need to learn to cope better w/the stress of entertaining. Anyone want to weigh in here?
I get a little overwhelmed when hosting too. I now just expect that someone will be arriving early (usually my ILs). I don't feel like mine do it to be annoying; I think they want to help with any last minute things. I don't think 20 minutes is too terrible, but if he texted several times after being told no that would irritate me too. I try to be at sit down dinners a little early...if they specifically say "eating at 2" I don't want to stroll in at 1:57 because that seems rude too.
My boss starts next week. My goal for this week was to wear jeans and duck out early every day while I still can. I'm irritated that it isn't working out and I have to, like, do my job.
milsaroo *waves* how is Baby Roo? Or should we call her C? Why won't you people tell about us stuff about your babies ? Don't you guys know my favorite kids are long distance kids LOL?!
1) DH had someone (HR? Purchasing? Admin?) order his business cards when he got his promotion last year. He has been handing them out for a year and I just noticed a few days ago that there is a typo on this job title. He said he never looks at them, just hands them out. Seriously? Maybe it is the English major in me but I would definitely check them out before I start giving them to people. Anyone who actually looks at them probably thinks DH is a moron. I told him he should really class it up and take a black sharpie to all 1,000 business cards and cross out the typo.
2) The CA $15 minimum wage bill is stressing me out a bit. I think it is great for many places in the state but I think it would be much better to do this on a county by county basis. I live in the eastern half of CA and, while I'm sure people will happily take $15/hr, it isn't as necessary here. You can buy a 3bed/2bath house in a pretty good school district for a bit over $200k here. A 2-bedroom apartment can be found for $700 per month and a 1-bedroom can be found for $500-$600. Our utilities, groceries, gas prices, etc. are also all a good bit lower than the bay area (my parents live there so I am familiar with costs). We aren't at LA/SF/SD prices and never will be. I also have several friends that own small businesses and $15 minimum wage is going to be painful, if not impossible, for them to handle if they keep the same number of employees. Our area has already been hit really hard by the drop in oil prices and this will make things worse. I know it isn't immediately going to go to $15 but any increase right now for small businesses in our area will likely force some layoffs. Like I said, it isn't all bad, but doing it by county would be so much better.

$15 an hour is only $31,200 a year if you get full time hour; most of the minimum wage jobs that I see are part time (less than 20 hours a week). While that can allow most people to rent a place that is not enough to buy a house. The increase is set for 2022 and by that time, if prices keep increasing the way that they do, it will not be a livable wage. I would love to force every single person who is complaining about the increase to live on that wage just to see that it is really damn hard (and sometimes impossible). A lot of the complainers that I know are still stuck in the 90's when it comes to wages and think that because they were able to survive on less than $9 an hour 20+ years ago that people should be able to do it now.

As a single person in my town I could absolutely live on $31,200 per year. I can't recall 90's numbers so I don't know if I'm one of these people that you know that are stuck there but I can tell you that in 2010 our family (DH, myself, DS1, and DD1) lived on $43000 and we were able to own a home, two cars, pay for preschool, etc. Prices of things like housing and gasoline have even dropped since those 2010 days. Maybe your friends in San Diego County do need $15, I don't dispute that at all. However, my county is not anywhere near the same category as San Diego County so what you need in your world doesn't translate here. Like I said, everyone will take it but there will be uncomfortable repercussions HERE, thus a county by county minimum wage would be beneficial. People in San Diego may need far more that $15 per hour to live as well as we did here on $10-$11 per hour. If I lived in SF I would probably be laughing at $15 because I could still afford approximately nothing on that wage.
Lol I am watching so many ridiculous shows right now, I might as well check this out. And I hardly watch CNBC anymore now since Suze ended.
I miss Size. I also used to love that show Til Debt Do Us Part.
Me tooooo! Remember when they started jazzing Gail up and she was wearing wrap dresses and more makeup? I always wondered if she wanted that or if The Man was pushing those changes on her.
