going off wrong names, i have a former friend who's closest cousin REFUSED to call her child by her first name, she always called her by her middle name. because she liked it better. even though that's not what the kid went by.

Why do people care so much what others name their children? It is so weird to me that people get so invested.

My sister's MIL legit texted my BIL at 3 in the morning saying she hated one of their name choices and that they had to go with their #1 name because it was a family name and his grandparents would be crushed!?! But it wasn't, not even close. This led to my BIL telling her she better get FB because it would be the only way she would see him. The offensive name? Henry. The same woman also told my sister that Lilly was not a name for a child, only a dog.

People can be so nutso when it comes to baby names. I have many stories about mil losing her shit, lol. Yet! Bil and sil named their kid something really weird and she didn't say a single thing about it. When Ilya was nameless for a week, she tried to get me to call him Zeus.

This is the first normal day I've had all week. DH got the flu (the actual-factual flu) and was the sickest I've seen him in years, for five days. He finally went 24 hours without a fever and is back to work today. I'm pretty sure at this point that the rest of us are fine, but I never got DD2 in for a flu shot this year (DD1 got hers at her well-check in January and I got one at Target) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I was up until 4:30 a.m. one night this week finishing a major project, and I have SO freaking much work to do that it's not even funny. But things are actually going well on the work front. I'm working on a project for an old editor of mine who got in touch with me and I think it's going to lead to more stuff. And she contacted me specifically because of my expertise in my industry because she'd previously been working with a technical writer who didn't have that knowledge base. That was a nice ego boost.

Another mother at my preschool tour yesterday asked me how I came up with my daughter's name, and I told her that it was my co-worker's cat's name.

Then she stopped talking to me.

Her loss!

There was a cooler mom next to her anyway, and we exchanged info. LOL.

They're crazy people. They just don't show as much crazy to the outside world since they don't deal with them in the same way.
Like that mil would just maybe mention the spelling to someone and says she would have done it differentlu. But make it about her son's child and she is all its my business, I'm grandma!
At least that's what I see from personal experience. These people are full on nuts.

we had a bigass fight at school and a kid winged one of those "caution, wet floor" cones and nailed my favorite special ed teacher in the head.  blood all over the floor in the hallway, ambulance, stitches.  unreal.

My friend's daughter is name Ryleigh. It's become the most normal way to spell it to all of us now

Oh, totally random (perfect for this thread), I think my landlord cleaned up my backyard, but I'm not sure. So, last year, I was cutting my front and back yards myself for awhile until the weed wacker (don't ask) I was using crapped out. At that point, I found someone to do the front, but it was the end of the season so I told him not to worry about the backyard (because there's dog poop and branches and shit).

FF to this year and now that it's rainy and warm, the backyard is crazy. Also, from storms and stuff I had one small tree fall over a few months ago (told my landlord, but he never did anything about it) and lots of branches fall. So I was planning on asking the yard guy to take care of the backyard the next time he came. Well, I came home yesterday to a pile of branches and stuff by my driveway and the backyard mowed. I'm assuming my landlord did it but a) why didn't he tell me? and b) it's in my lease that I take care of lawn maintenance so I'm not sure why he would do it. Unless he was coming to take care of the tree months later and decided to do the rest, but that really just got rolled over to the side so it's not even gone. Weird.

We have a friend, John. John is married to Jane. Due to legal reasons they cannot divorce even though they hate each other. Legal issues are nearly over. Jane posted a picture on FB with Dick. She and Dick are very snugly. One picture even looks like they maybe holding hands. John is very adamant they not date others until the divorce can be final. I'm very interested to see if John brings it up on Saturday. He has been dying to file for divorce.

Ryleigh feels really You-Neek to me.  Like folks are trying to hard.

Of course it's ok, it's a real name that was co-opted to make Riley/Reilly you-nique.

It's my sister's middle name too, and would have been DS's if he had been a girl.

he still loved her until the legal mess came to fruition. She is the reason they are in this situation.

because THEY ARE.  Leigh is a lovely spelling of Lee, and my sister's middle name as well.  but EVERY NAME that ends in "ley" doesn't need to be changed to "leigh" or "lee" or some shit.  see also, adding one of those to the end of the beginning of another name.

My little cousin's name is Rylee and her grandma still spells it Riley. So there's that.

Ok now for my random. Yesterday I dropped DD off at the school's childcare in the morning. All her friends were all excited and came running over to give her hugs and greet her. I thought it was a sweet gesture until one other girl rolled her eyes and asked why everyone gets so excited to see her. Another friend yells out "because she's a rock star that's why!" I thought that was kind of sill but then last night at bedtime I found out that this girl is super mean to DD and now DD thinks this girl hates her. The girl is always telling her that her drawings suck. Her hair is ugly and that she has a fat face etc. SHE'S FRICKEN 6! Is this jealously shit starting already??
