No, I delivered at 37 weeks for pre e with baby 1. They thought I had it with number two so I was closely monitored but I never developed anything. I had one high bp but it was due to outside stress.
I only had it w/ my first and didn't have it w/ the other 2, I did not do anything to prevent it as my midwives were not concerned. I also didn't develop symptoms until 39-40 weeks.
I had pre-e diagnosed at 40w with DD. I'm currently 18w pregnant with #2.
I requested to be tested for the MTHFR genetic mutation, which is linked with pre-e and HELLP (along with a few other things). About 10-15% of white women have it, and so do I. This means my body struggles to break down folic acid and a byproduct (homocysteine) rises and, in turn, makes pre-e more likely.
I have switched to a folate, food-based prenatal. We had base labs run so it will be easier to tell if something is off and might test my homocysteine levels later in pregnancy.
I'm also supplementing with extra vitamin D, even above my prenatal.
Otherwise, I'm just hoping for the best.
If you don't mind me asking, did you ever have any other symptoms related to that gene mutation such as miscarriages? Or is pre-e the only symptom you have for the mutation?
Had pre-e with #1, diagnosed early ish, like 24 weeks. Delivered at 37, had been on bed rest since 30. Both at home and in the hospital.
Currently 30 weeks pg with #2. Bp is ok- 130s/80s, no spilling protein. I've been taking a daily low dose aspirin based on ACOG recommendations and eating a high protein diet (Brewers diet). I've also been seeing my chiro frequently and taking a magnesium supplement. I do think all of that is helping.
Did your Dr. recommend the magnesium supplement? I sort of supplemented with my last pregnancy and it did nothing. Haha. But I am willing to try more diligently this pregnancy to prevent HELLP. What mg a day are you taking if you don't mind my asking.
Actually my chiro did. I know a lot of people don't like chiros, but mine is fantastic. She doesn't really pop me- she'll adjust my joints with a little clicker thing, and she works with me on stretches. I notice a massive difference in how I feel.
She also does a TON of research into various treatments for her client's complaints. She was the one who told me about the Aspirin, the Brewers diet, and the mag supplement. I take one a day- I think its maybe 425mg? I don't know which of those (if any) have worked, but my pre-e was bad last time.....like I said, I was on hospital bedrest for a while, I had severe pitting edema and proteinuria, etc. This pregnancy has been the exact opposite. And I didn't start out healthier than I did last time....I probably weighed more (2.5 years on fertility meds will do that to you!). So I do think something I am doing is helping

Good point....I also did a baseline 24 hr screen at 18 weeks I think. Just so my OB could get an idea of my starting point. I've done one 24 hr screen since then- at 28 weeks, and I'm sure we will start doing them more regularly, she had mentioned we would keep an eagle eye on my bp and protein as we got closer.

Yeah, they did a baseline for me too. I had to do some early bloodwork. Even though it turned out to be nothing for me I am glad they kept a close eye on things. I asked if I ever have a third if I would be considered high risk again and the doctor basically said I could be if I wanted to (for insurance purposes).
Sounds like they are taking appropriate precautions for you too!
I had HELLP with #1, and am currently pg with #2 but only 8 weeks so BP is still good. They are recommending baby asprin starting at 12 weeks, and I'm doing a baseline 24 hour urine screen in a couple weeks, too.
They also tested my vit D and it was low, so I am taking rx D supplements on top of my prenatal.

I don't but I have the heterogenous version which is less severe in some ways.
I'm glad I know though because I will avoid folic acid supplements (unfortunately it's hard to avoid in processed grain). It is also related to increased cancer risk and some brain issues, which I'd also like to avoid.
The test would have been $350 OOP but insurance covered it all.
lolo thanks for the info. I may look into that test just to be sure.
If you'd like I can PM you some of the studies I read when I was first presented with the information and I'm happy to try to answer if you have questions. I've done a lot of reading and taking with medical folks at this point.
