The new companion made an early entrance! I'm sorry if I spoiled that for you, ameliapond. I liked her in the episode...my only concern about her as an ongoing companion (besides how they are going to resolve that with the timeline, etc.) is that she might be a little too "Doctorish" -- genius, flirty, wisecracking, nonchalant about Daleks, etc.
I like the idea of "What would the Doctor be if he weren't the scourge of the Daleks?" I liked how lighthearted he was at the end.
I have to say I didn't buy the Amy/Rory split. At all. Amy's reasoning felt forced, and considering everything they've been through, something that they could have talked about.
I love Oswin though. Can't wait to see how they use her story line--I think she's back in Ep. 6.

I had originally heard she was going to premiere in the Christmas Special...not sure which episode that would be.
I agree that coming in on the Rory/Amy split seemed forced, even if you saw the Pond Life series that set up trouble between them in the last snippet. I do think after all the dedication they've shown to each other they should have talked about it.
But, I did like Rory's, "Obviously, I've always loved you more than you've loved me." Because, didn't we all kinda feel that?
I couldn't tell, was it a surprise to Rory that Amy couldn't have kids, or just that that was the reason why they split up?

Forced was a good way to describe - I thought it resolved way to quickly to be an issue that you were apparently divorcing over.
I figured they were setting it up for her becoming miraculously pregnant for her exit? One can hope, Moffat is much smarter than me though.

Yeah I was impressed at the article where Moffat thanked people for keeping the secret about her appearance.
Okay, yes, I thought that too (I mean, he wanted 2000 years for her...).
I thought he was surprised to learn this. Does seem a weird thing not to discuss.

I thought they played the Oswin thing really well. Because you KNEW something was wrong...there was no way she had survived against Daleks for a year, but you just didn't quite know what it was. And then -- BAM! I wonder if he's going to pull her out of her timeline prior to this, or what? Because one you go Dalek, I don't think you can go back. She's probably just a head in there or something.
But then would this episode have happened? I get so confused between paradox and non-paradox timelines...I think for Doctor Who it's as long as it's not an "important enough" event to be fixed in time he can change it, right? But can he actually undo it retroactively, or would it be like Rose's dad surviving?
And Amy as a supermodel? That seemed a little odd too. For a while I was thinking we were in a parallel universe or something.
We saw her in the Petrichor advertisements, so I figured it was for that (the "girl who's tired of waiting" perfume). It was in the cyberman episode with Stormagedon.

Any way the Dalek loaded her consciousness (like a program), but not her actual body/mind. I mean, they're not usually like cyberman right?
Oh, really? I thought they were little creatures in there, like the one in the glass case. I figured they stripped her down to her brain and got her in there somehow.

You're right, I guess since they were so those things are supreme beings or whatever, they wouldn't have put in a little old human mind. But I guess it was a special human mind.

So, do you think Amy's completely out of the woods with this whole nannite cloud thing?
I liked this quote about the breakup:
It's not just that I have a hard time believing in the breakup of Amy and Rory, I have a hard time believing they entered "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" territory that quickly. The Doctor didn't leave them alone for decades, after all. If the show was going to go in this direction, it needed to do more work to make me believe that this particular couple would break up -- for any reason.

Thats a good quote. Moffatt is great a plot lines, and this one seemed so off - but it makes me think there is more. I get they were about to die possibly, but it still seemed a sudden shift from lets sign divorce papers to kiss and make up.
Oh, another companion idea. What if the new companion is a descendant of Oswin (or vice versa) like the Gwyneth/Gwen thing in the Unquiet Dead/Stolen Earth.
Oh shit. Also, what ever happened to the Doctor's Daughter. There's a plot line that's never been tidied up.
Am I just talking to myself now?
LOL, no I'm hear, but I ran out of responses. Descendent seems possible - but then I feel like they won't get the brilliant computer genius skilz.
I agree, Doctor's daughter needs to be wrapped up. Also (since we were re-watching the marathon), we never actually find out who blew up the TARDIS (Doctor said it was for another day to figure out who). I guess it was the Silence, but its still not clear.
I was too busy crying big tears at the Ponds divorcing to dig too deep right away. Amy's line about giving Rory up and Rory saying that he loved her more was some of the saddest dialog ever said on that show.
I think that what the article leaves out, although good, is the fact that Amy's still pretty young. Yes, they have been through so much together but she's still young. It's probably a lot to deal with as well as the difference of returning to normal life after the Doctor.
I was surprised to see the new companion! Very well kept secret. I don't know how they plan to brng her back. IMDB has her named Clara in future episodes. I don't know if that will be her name or if it was just so it wouldn't be spoiled. But both Martha and Amy played others before being companions. Neither had as big of roles though.
