Ok, this one is real dumb, but I have no idea- should she wear a bib while I'm breastfeeding? I only have three bibs, and I do plan on pumping at some point. How many bibs should I have?
I have five burp clothes- I'm thinking I'll need a few more?
What do I actually do with receiving blankets?
I'm planning on having her in our room for only 2-3 weeks. Is that reasonable, if I'm breastfeeding through the night?
Does she really need a mobile?
Please feel free to tell me other random stuff that I'll need to know.
You can use bibs while BFing if you want, but we didn't. We actually didn't use bibs at all for the most part, but some people use them 24/7, especially when the crazy drool starts.
Receiving blankets can be used for swaddling, general bundling, in the car seat/stroller. I didn't use them much.
Do whatever works for "rooming in." We kept DS in our room for much longer, but I actually moved to the nursery/glider to BF him since doing it in bed never really worked for me/us and then brought him back when we were done. I liked having him next to me so I could pop the paci back in without actually getting up. You may find your LO doesn't have many of those Paci Pop-outs or that you are getting up to feed her anyway so it doesn't matter, etc. Just be flexible.

No, she doesn't need a bib while nursing.
I will say though - the foldable cloth diapers make the best burp cloths. Buy those in bulk. I think I remember tucking one under my boob for any leakage during nursing.
Receiving blankets are good for covering her in her car seat, having in your diaper bag in for an impromptu changing pad, etc. we found they weren't big enough for swaddling. Kiddopotamus SwaddleMes are amazing and we had at least half a dozen of them.
Will slept in our bed for 11.5 months, so maybe I'm not the best opinion on this, but you can expect her to nurse multiple times overnight for at least 6 weeks. Some babies STTN earlier than that, but most don't.
The biggest thing to remember is to be FLEXIBLE. Do whatever it takes to get though the first six weeks, and don't be too hard on yourselves if nothing goes the way you planned it.

When she starts teething, you'll want a lot for drool. You'll have 4 months probably until then. When she eats food, you'll want 3+ bigger food bibs.
I have five burp clothes- I'm thinking I'll need a few more? Depends. Anything can be a burp cloth.
What do I actually do with receiving blankets? See burp cloth above! They're good for floor play, tucking around for warmth, nursing cover, whatever. You probably have way more than you need.
I'm planning on having her in our room for only 2-3 weeks. Is that reasonable, if I'm breastfeeding through the night? For me, it wasn't.

We used receiving blankets as burp clothes - just fold in half for thickness.
Mobile isn't necessary - we registered for one & if someone hadn't bought it for us we would have been just fine without it. Morgan enjoyed hers - it had animals she liked to pull on and hit around and it played music, either for a short period of time or longer if she hit the buttons.
My tip I give everyone is to get a lingerie bag for socks. So much easier for keeping track of them when doing laundry!

I've read this in a lot of posts lately, that the first six weeks really are just survival. It makes me so grateful to be taking 12 weeks of leave- hopefully I'll get to enjoy some time at the end! Lol.
Agree you can pretty much never have too many burp clothes. Bib is personal preference and baby dependent, didn't need them for DD but a friend had a spitter (reflux related) and used them. Receiving blankets are a multi-purpose item, you don't need a ton but having a few is a good idea. Use them for changing baby, swaddling, quick cover for BFing if you want, etc It shouldn't be a problem depending on how far her room is from yours, BFd at night until 6 months at points it was every 2 hrs and during the 4 month wakeful was up every 1.5 or so. And no mobile's aren't necessary.
She probably doesn't need a bib while nursing but at 4 months DD is drooling like crazy and probably goes through 2-3 bibs a day just from drooling so you will probably want to get more bibs eventually.
We haven't used burp cloths much. Not really sure why. A lot of people do use them more though so I would say you may wanta few more.
My DD LOVES her mobile. We seriously played it so much that by 12 weeks old the music box on it broke and we got the company to send us a new one. I say if you find one you like might as well get it.

On the flip side, my baby was a total non spit up guy. I might have wiped his mouth with a washcloth here and there.
I lasted maybe 5 days room sharing. I needed to get away from him for awhile for my mental health. We also formula fed so half the nights weren't my problem anyway, lol.
No mobile needed. My son first smiled at our living room ceiling fan.

Do babies not always spit up when you burp them? I thought they usually do.

YES the foldable cloth diapers are so great. They are also good to wash toddler hands/faces, so hang on to them!
my only suggestion is not to put a "goal" amount of time on rooming in. i just don't want you to feel like something is going "wrong" if you're not ready for the transition by the appointed time. jonah was STTN by 3 months and i thought that was normal, so when ryan was absolutely not even close i felt like he had a sleep problem instead of just being different. stuff that doesn't happen as you expect is absolutely not wrong.
i also wanted to make sure you know that i'm close enough to come to you if you want boob help!! i would LOVE to help if you need anything.
We used burp cloths a lot because David had reflux and spit up so much. I had a burp cloth constantly draped on me for the first 6 months of his life, lol. David was really into being swaddled so we used receiving blankets for that before he was big enough for the Miracle Blanket. But all babies are different so you kinda don't know how much of what you'll need until you get to know your baby.

Oh yes they do lol I forgot to add that we got a ton of receiving blankets at showers so we just use those in place of burp cloths.

LOL.
I think some people pull this off but she will be nursing every three hours (or less!) for quite awhile. I would just move her when it makes sense for y'all.

Nope. Depends on the baby and the situation. Some spit up every time, some only if you didn't thoroughly burp them, some never spit up. Some spit up, but only randomly like 45min after they ate. Errybody's different.
No matter what your baby's patterns end up being, know that the time she is MOST likely to spit up is when you have no burp cloth nearby. That is a given.
She doesn't need a bib to bf. I don't think we started bibs until they were drooling a lot and sitting.
I used burp clothes/receiving blankets for burping. I also used receiving blankets for almost everything! fold and put around their head in the infant car seat, as an actual blanket when we were cuddled on the couch and kids were hanging out, cover while nusring, lay on their laps in the swing, put on the ground and lay then on them to hang out.
totally do-able for the 2-3 weeks. I only nursed the first few months and DD was in her own room and crib from night 1. DS went to his own room at 1 week-ish. I just went in there and nursed and then back to bed.
She doesn't need a mobile. mine didn't care about ours.

We didn't start using bibs until we started solids. I just always figured babies would have stuff on their clothes. As long as it wasn't pee, poop or vomit, I didn't bother changing him.
I will second the cloth diapers as burp cloths! They really hold so much more and are more versatile.
We used receiving blankets mostly on the floor for tummy time, and I used the not as nice ones as chin wipes. Or to play peekaboo.
I think 2-3 weeks is fine, but just as with birth plans, don't be upset if that doesn't work. Don't force anything that doesn't work. If it will let everyone get more sleep, keep her with you. But if the baby noises (which, babies make a lot of noise, even when asleep) keep you guys up, move her to her room. Like PPs said, survival for the first few weeks is the only thing important.
No need for a mobile.
My biggest tip is to ask if you need help. Physically, mentally, anything. Your health is amazingly important, and a lot of people forget about that. So make sure your H takes the baby for a while, so you can go get your nails done, or take a nap, or read the newest bestseller. Yes, the baby needs attention, but so do you.

we called jonah volcano-face. that's what passes as humor during the first six weeks.

I used Aiden and Anis swaddle blankets more frequently than receiving blankets. You can knot 2 ends, wear it like a backwards cape, and it makes a great nursing cover.
DD2 slept in our room for like 4 or 5 months.... after that DH would go get her for our night feeding and we'd nurse in bed while laying down. If that works for you two, it was a sanity saver.
We didn't bother with bibs, and ditto the inexpensive cloth diapers for burp clothes.

Depends on the baby. Neither of mine were spitters.

Mine just burped and was done. I did have to burp while he laid face down across my lap. I couldn't get it done any other way. I'd also buy gas drops.
I will never forget my son screaming at 2am when he was 2 weeks old. He finally farted and promptly fell asleep! The gas drops are cheap and help with that.
Another suggestion, establish a BFing spot for daytime. Have the tv remote/iPhone with charger/kindle, big reusable water bottle filled, basket of one handed snacks. I spent more time in my nursing zone then anywhere else the first 2 months having it set up so I could relax, grab water (I also would start dying of thirst), eat something if the munchies hit, and so on made it much more comfortable.
Be ready to do laundry (or have someone else do laundry) A LOT the first few weeks. Spit up, blowouts, pee accidents happen every day. Some days I did more than a load a day.
Make sure you have everything you need before feeding the baby. Remote, ipad, charger, drink, snack, medications if you need them, empty bladder, etc. once the kid is settled, it is a lot harder to get things.
I will say though - the foldable cloth diapers make the best burp cloths. Buy those in bulk. I think I remember tucking one under my boob for any leakage during nursing.

These are super usegful. My mother still has a big box of cloth diaper inserts she uses as cleaning rags, dusting cloths, and most anyplace you could use a paper towel. Given when she had her babies, they have to be close to 30 years old! At this rate I'll probably inherit them.
I really hate bibs. I only use the wipe off kind when feeding solids. I think 5 burp cloths will work until you see if your baby spits up a lot or not.
I still have a ton of blankets that have never been used.
We moved my DD when she was 6 months. She was still waking a lot before that point. We moved my DS to his own room 3 days ago and he is 7.5 months old. I am on auto pilot middle of the night and I really like the ease of not having to walk down the hall.
I had a mobile for my DD and never used it. I didn't bother with DS.
I like to have diaper changing areas set up on each floor of my house, so it isn't such a chore to go change hundreds of diapers you change the first couple of weeks.
I also had nursing areas set up with my boppy, burp cloth, place to put my water/snack, and the remote.
