I'm making up a very uncomplicated rock garden. It's supposed to get up to 70 next weekend, and I feel reasonably certain we're past the danger of frost at night.

I've been seriously slacking on my flower beds this year. I have to clean them out of all the leaves and dead things, then I have some potted plants to plant. I got into the habit of buying perennials at the end of the year when they're discounted, but I'm not so quick to plant them. I should do that today while the weather is nice but not too warm like yesterday was. My favorite flower in my beds is an Oriental Poppy. Just before the flowers bloom, they are in a pod that looks like an alien egg.
Love flowers and flowerbeds. It is way past light in Western NY so pictures will have to wait until tomorrow. I planted some today.
Oriental Poppies are a cool flower, love the way they look.
flex, can't wait to see your rock garden. H thought I was insane when I moved in with him and brought rocks from my old house. Hey, I need my river rocks!

River rocks and glacier rocks are the bomb. I'm always on the lookout for them...as long as they're not on someone's property. lol

We're getting a frost warning tonight, so I'm glad we haven't planted anything lately. But here are my 2 tulips in the front yard, and the azaleas which are in full bloom on either side of my front door. I'm going to plant some lavender and phlox in a couple of weeks

I love azaleas. They don't grow outside up here in Alaska, but when I was in Oregon last month, they were blooming and absolutely gorgeous! I looks like your rhodies will be blooming soon.

Which state do you live in?
I'm in New England. If memory serves, I think the rhodies will bloom in June.

I just realized that I forgot to post a pic of my other favorite flower in my bed, the Fringed Tulip. We got some heavy winds right after they bloomed, and the 2 flowers broke. I haven't had much luck finding them in the local area. I want to plant more, but I'm going to have to order them online. This is not my pic, but mine look exactly like this.....or they did before they were damaged.
Love your photos ladies! Haven't even started my pots yet. We had snow recently. Then an 80 degree day. Then lows hovering near freezing over the weekend. Hoping to plant some flowers next weekend. Until then, your pictures will entertain me!
Very nice superduper ! I got some of the pink flowers in the lower right corner of the picture above:
They'll go on both sides of the front porch. I have a lot of digging to do this weekend to put them in, as well as those other flowers that I posted in my OP. Once I get them in the ground, as well as the other rock plants I bought, I'll mulch the areas so they look a little bit more tidy.

I can't wait for my garden to bloom this year! I've planted all the purple! Purple crepe myrtles (3 different ones), a new let's dance rave hydrangea, purple glam beauty berry, groovy grape butterfly bush, a bunch of purple day lilies, plus cleome and zinnias!!!
Nothing really in bloom yet though. So here is a picture from our yard work two weeks ago. I replaced that hydrangea that got frost bite bc it's been 5 years and I haven't gotten a bloom off it yet. I finally gave in and replaced it with a reblooming (new wood bloomer) variety. I've never had so much trouble with hydrangea before.
Oh, and this was my clearance rack score from Lowes. All that for $21!! There is also a wigelia (pink ) and some annuals that were $1/6-pack. Don't even know what they are lol

My pitiful garden is a total failure this year Only two of the irises I planted last spring survived the winter, but no blooms, only leaves. The two peonies I planted did survive, but the landscaper weed-wacked one of them. They were cuttings from a coworker's plants, so I didn't expect blooms this year, but I was so excited to see them sprouting. I put small fences around them, so the landscapers would leave them alone, and I did see some new growth today. And the only plant that was here when I moved in, an almost dead hydrangea, was transplanted last year and did beautfully. I was hoping this year there would be flowers. So far, not even a single leaf.

I love rocks! Sometimes I bring them home from vacation

We had FABULOUS weather this past weekend, so I was gardening like a fiend--got most of my bedding plants in the ground. I have a few more to plant this coming weekend. I'll post pics soon.
Boy, my legs and butt are sore--got a good workout crouching and standing.

So this is what one side of my front porch looks like. I have some yellow flowering rock plants that I'll add this weekend. Next weekend I'll put down bark mulch so it looks prettier. I used some leftover bricks from the front walkway to edge part of it.
I have a caribou antler planter and I'll plant flowers in the moss-line basket on Saturday. I love this planter. I bought it at a garden party five years ago. The planter on the porch just has the flowers stacked inside. I'll plant those too on Saturday. The yellow flowers are the plants I'll be putting into the rock garden.
This is a close-up of the flowers that will go into the moss basket. Lobelia and another flower whose name escapes me at this moment. lol

My great-aunt had a huge succulent garden. I used to love her with the hens & chickens. I was so sorry when she died and we had to sell her house because it meant I couldn't go to the garden anymore.

Ooh, such pretty flowers in here! I can never get flowers to work, although I have several columbines along a section of my driveway that I love. Every year I talk about planting fall bulbs and just never get around to it. I finally DID IT last fall, and it was such a treat when crocuses and daffodils bloomed this spring. I know exactly what I'm going to put in next fall - I love those fringed tulips. I hope the bulbs are easy to find.
I just posted about my vegetable garden in the randoms. In order, going away from the house, I have herbs, beans and peas, carrots and beets, broccoli, brussels sprouts and celery, then tomatoes and peppers, and in the far end of the garden I have pumpkin in the ground and a watermelon in a large container. If one of those has to go I'll sacrifice the watermelon to save the pumpkin. I love growing my pumpkins every year.
I took some pictures yesterday. I see some room on the front porch to squeeze in a few planters, but I think it's time to stop. lol I did buy some more violas to plant in my flower bed this morning. Flowers are my crack!

DH and I went out of town for a couple of weeks before most of my seed starts were ready for replanting. I really need to get out to the planters this weekend and get them taken care of, but it's going to be HOT (by WA standards). I have about 6 different flavors of hot peppers that are going to love this weather!
