Augh! And now we have to wait a year and a half. Do you think Walt was really out, or just told Skyler so? I can't imagine how he truly got out unless he just turned the whole operation over to redhead guy.
The prison murders were scary as hell.
I spend every moment of every episode terrified that the baby is going to somehow find the ricin and eat it.
It seems like a very sloppy move for Walt to keep a book inscribed by Gale around. Very unlike him.

I think Walt may *want* to be out, but hasn't really thought it through. I imagine you can't just give 2 weeks notice when you're a drug kingpin. Eager to see how Vince uses the remaining 8 episodes to wrap up the story - but I don't waaaaaaana wait that long!
I don't think Walt is out - it's simply not that easy. All that equipment, and other loose ends - how can you just walk away? There's much more to it than that.
I wonder how long it will take for Walt to figure out Hank is on to him! I think this is where Jesse will come into play in the final 8 episodes - will he protect Walt, or is there enough anger there that he'll be persuaded to cooperate with the DEA? Because if Walt goes down, Jesse goes down.
Anyone else noticed Marie was NOT WEARING PURPLE during the dinner scene on the patio?

All I noticed was the purple shag rug, lol.
I think the scene with Jesse and Walt was amazing...and then afterwards, when you realize that the whole time Jesse was expecting Walt to try to kill him (and was preparing to kill him first if necessary). And the reveal in the beginning where "Heisenberg" moves his hat and you realize he was going to poison Lydia with ricin if necessary. Lydia's panicky survivalist CEO is really growing on me. "Learn how to take 'yes' for an answer, Lydia."

That episode was so fantastic. One of the best in the series in my opinion. I'm also not convinced that Walt is completely out, there are too many complications and loose ends still out there for him to just walk away like that.
I was dying at the end. Hank figuring it out was THE moment I've been waiting for since the first episode, and I certainly didn't expect it to happen while he was sitting on the toilet. I think Walt kept the book from Gale around as an ego boost. It was clear that Gale idolized and respected Walt greatly, and the book was a reminder of that.
Wow, that was seriously a flawless episode. I loved it. The prison murders were brutal, but I loved the meth montage and everything.
I kind of want to believe that Walt really was planning to get out. Maybe he didn't have all the loose ends tied up, but I think his prognosis is bad and he doesn't have much time left and that woke him up into needing to focus on his family. And then of course it figures that Hank finds out now of all times just when he wants to turn his life around.
I hope there's more of Jesse in the next half of the season, he hasn't played a very big part in this season.

OMG Dr. Girlfriend - talk about a missed opportunity for AMC. They should have played the polka "Roll out the barrell."
Serious question, DH thought it was obvious that the cancer was back and inoperable. I thought the dent in the bathroom towels was there before, but maybe I'm misremembering.
If the cancer is back, and based on the 'good ol' times' conversation between Jesse and Walt, I think he probably is out.
I love Hank. I love that AMC didn't let the viewers wonder whether Hank connected the dots (they showed Hank remembering the clip of his convo over W.W). Of course he remembered - he's like a computer with these things.
Well wait, I thought it was obvious that the cancer is back too. I kind of hesitated to say anything in my post above for fear that everyone would be like "well yea, goes without saying", which was why no one mentioned it....?
I mean to me that's definitely what's going on, Walt looked so detached and downtrodden after the hospital scene.

The dent was there before - he put it there in season 1 when he found out.
I'm assuming the cancer is back. Remember the first clip from the season premier, which showed Walt coughing in the bathroom? I took that as a sign that the cancer is back.
I just don't see how he extricates himself from the operation quite so cleanly.
I'm dying to see what Hank does, particularly with Skylar, who is he'll be able to figure out is an accomplice. She had Hank and Marie take care of her kids so she could continue to launder money. Is he going to cut her slack or go after her too? Plus, he's going to have to figure out how to handle this at work. How's it going to look when his White Whale is his own brother in law? He's not going to be able to cut anyone any favors if its family involved. He's going to get pulled off the case if he talks about it at work.
I would like to see more of Jesse but I also want Jesse to flee the country now, as it seems like his only way to survive.

In the first episode of the season, Walt is celebrating his 52 birthday at a Denny.'s. He has a fake ID. I'm taking that as Hank came after Walt and Walt made the call to the guy to could "disappear" them. The last half of the show would be spent on the run. Just my working theory anyway.
I think that the first episode they showed is actually part of the last episode. Maybe that's his last day alive. At least I hope so. I'm definitely one of those that wants Jesse to pop to holes in that mofo -_-
I agree with others that there will be a lot of possibilities for next season, but I just wanted to say that it sucks that we have to wait almost a year to know what will happen. Do you know why it takes so long?

From what I've read, Vince Gilligan is VERY involved with every aspect of the show, from scripting to shooting to color correction. He would rather turn out fewer episodes slowly than get on a fast production schedule and delegate that kind of stuff. I don't think it's that unusual for these cable series, though. Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who and series like that have these short seasons or half-seasons and breaks of 8 months or more at times.

Yeah, it makes sense what you say but it really sucks!
My DH was guessing that maybe AMC was having trouble getting the money to make the episodes, as they seem very expensive.

I agree that it's likely part of the last episode.
I think there's got to be some weird twist though. Here's my theory:
At some point, Hank confronts Walt. Walt plays Hank somehow, and gets the whole family into witness protection, which would explain why Walt has a drivers license from another state with another name. The family is safe in New Hampshire, but Walt sneaks back to New Mexico for some unfinished business.
So, is Jesse totally back in stoner-mode? Did he "break up" with that chick and her son who got poisoned with the Lily of the Valley?
I seem to recall them breaking up a few episodes ago. He and Walt were cooking, and Walt got inside Jesse's head about Andrea. I don't think they showed the break up but I seem to remember it being implied somewhere along the line.
I think Jesse is broke, depressed, and aimless, so it's not surprising to me that he was blazing up. He needs to take the cash, flee to Mexico, and just live out life as a bartender or some other chill job on the beach.

I think Jesse broke up with Andrea, at Walt's indirect prompting. Something about them not finding out what Jesse is doing (since they met at AA, right?), and keeping them safe.

i think this is plausible too, since AMC wasn't sure they even wanted to bring it back for a final season. as amazing a show it is, the season finale had the same viewership as a law and order SVU rerun airing an hour earlier.
