I think it's because she sincerely still thought she was going to make the quilt! She still probably would swear that she will make it today, given the chance. A time/ reality conceptualization problem. I really don't believe any ill was meant at all.
But I'm also among those who believe sincere advantage was taken. SO sort of a juxtaposition..?
I just know we're all cheering for you, UWR!!

I agree. I actually wasn't surprised that she still had them. I think she's super overwhelmed and had good intentions. But really, when UWR repeatedly asked for them back, she should have gotten them back. I think some laziness and procrastination was at play there.
