I definitely think it's better to wait. You will be EXHAUSTED and not want to be in that situation at that time. She should plan it at a more convenient time BEFORE the baby for you or wait to see everyone at Christmas.
I couldn't even look nice at home in the first 6 weeks. I was a hot mess!
Definitely stand up for yourself, and tell her no. I was so sleep deprived those first couple of weeks, and still recovering from an unplanned c-section.

I don't have anything of value to add except that this makes me really angry. It's so blatant that this has nothing to do with "throwing a shower" to help you guys out with some gifts and EVERYTHING to do with "look at my brand new grandchild and pay no attention to the sleep deprived leaky disaster of a woman in the corner over there."
It's such a bitch move to put you in the position to have to refuse her "offer" and look ungrateful.
I didn't have a typical experience (I couldn't walk for a month post-partuum) but only a small percentage of the women i know would have enjoyed a post baby baby shower. "Let's just wait until Christmas" is just fine in my book.
