Anything other than happy hour is torture. Do not make me do trust falls. Do not make me wear a swimsuit. Do not make me compete with my coworkers (sports, trivia, whatever). Do not make me take a quiz and share my results.
Very few "team building" activities actually build team-mindedness. Let us have a drink to relax and talk about NOT work stuff. We almost always find common ground.

Well, being in sales we do a lot of team building activities that require bathing suits, something athletic, or getting up on stage and performing. My least favorite to date has been high speed go carting. Not horrible, but it was one of the few activities that we couldn't drink at during the activity.

White water rafting for me. It was 14 hours with a bus ride with co-workers who were incredibly boring. Way to make a fun thing, PAINFUL.
DH would say outward bound, aside from the high ropes course, which pugz, mentioned, but, also, a "campfire psychologist" who tried to get people to tell them about the worst thing that ever happened to them, in front of co-workers. DH said people were crying, and the things they revealed were so personal, he was horrified that any professional would try to open up that can of worms in front of co-workers.

omg this reminds me of a trip I took in college. A group of us went to Colorado and stayed with the family of one of the girls. Her parents are interesting people. The first night we were sitting around after dinner and he pulls out a notebook and asks us all to share our life stories. AND HE TAKES NOTES. Most of us gave very vague versions of our life stories and avoided talking about any of the deeper stuff. We were all SO uncomfortable.
Anything involving acting or speaking in front of a large group. Like, what's the game where you have to act something out and people guess? That's the worst.
My previous supervisor had this "game" that she made us all give her a secret fun fact about us. She made them into a list and we had to guess which fact belonged to which person. After several years of doing this regularly, I was fresh out of fun facts. I'm really pretty boring anyway, so I hate doing shit like that.
Improv would be the worst for me (introvert). ::shudder:: DH has to go on so many work outings and they all sound terrible to me. Usually they're eating/drinking excessively to the wee hours of the morning. That might not sound bad but these outings are mid-week and his coworker's get blacked-out drunk. They also eat the grossest food - squid that still moves, pig & chicken feet, etc. The first one my DH went to - a coworker got wasted and snuck out without his shoes, got on a random public bus and promptly passed out. It took hours to find him and the guy's poor wife was in hysterics. They've gone to karaoke rooms and hired women to "entertain" them. The less debauched outings usually include sports. The last one was hiking a mountain and at the end they had a contest to see who could drink a 2-liter of Coke the fastest. It's just... Ridiculous. He works in Asia so this was a huge change from the US office culture where no one wanted to GTG outside of work, ever.
I have a low level job at a big corp so I've had to endure a lot of forced fun as they try to improve our poor little lives
I've attended little pep rallies where leads have dressed up in costumes and danced to Gangnam Style on stage and where they've produced elaborate, ridiculous video skits for us to watch. Been invited to team building events that are set up in a conference room complete with hula hoops a hopscotch grid taped off on the floor. They'll also randomly have coloring contests or other nonsense. OMG I hate all of it! The only thing that doesn't piss me off is food.
My last employer did both a ropes course, and whitewater rafting. And I think something else horrible which I have blocked from my memory. Luckily I quit just before the rafting event.
I would happily wear a bikini in front of my entire office before singing in public.
Team sports. I couldn't set a volleyball when I was in high school; I have no interest in trying now. I'd wear a string bikini in front of CWs before playing volleyball lol.

Those obstacle course places where you have to hoist people over 10-foot walls and do three-legged races and stuff. It's no fun being the fat girl during those kinds of activities.
Also, building a spaghetti bridge is really super lame. We did that last year. Just give me an assigned table and a glass of wine and I'll talk to new people. Donate the spaghetti boxes to the food pantry instead of wasting all of it on this exercise. I don't even remember the point of it--I just remember my annoyance.
Mine would be anything athletic. So golf, surfing, any sort of team sport. I am not particularly athletic and would be really embarrassed to have my lack of skills on display.
Oooohhh I agree with this. Though, I can laugh at myself, and wouldn't be mortified. Just uncomfortable.
Now, if it was a dance off, I'd have a fighting chance lol
We did something like this in high school, for my leadership class. A ropes course. It was so much fun!!! I was the first person to get in harness because everyone else was scared. I loved it.

Dancing did not even occur to me. That would be awful! Worse than volleyball or swimsuits. Ugh. I could deal with improv and enjoy ropes courses. But the hell I am dancing for my co-workers.
