I just got a fraud alert message from my credit card company on a purchase I made for $1.59! LOL.
I mean, I'm glad they're checking (we went through a phase a few years ago where our # was getting stolen repeatedly) but I just find it funny that of all the things I've bought recently, including while traveling out of state, this is the one that gets flagged. And the alerts (via email and text) came through seriously about 10 seconds after I hit the purchase button.

I always wonder what exactly triggers this. I work in this general area and I see things that are totally obvious fraud but don't get caught, but then other things do. It's weird!

The algorithms are super complicated and adjust based on your specific card usage. So it mostly looks for abnormalities for you. If you rarely have tiny purchases, red flag. If it's a store you frequent often but huge purchase, red flag. If it's in a different part of the country and you don't also have travel related charges like gas or an airport fee, red flag. Etc. Some companies are more thorough than others. We had a card actually fraudulent and our main card never noticed. Whereas our secondary cards seem to email or call us constantly.

Yeah, I know the basic triggers but I'll see a $300 purchase from China that obviously isn't them, but that doesn't get caught. Usually places known for fraud (gas, companies that don't have chip readers, etc) + not in their area is caught fairly quickly. I'd be interested though to sit down with our card company and see what all they do on their end!
We looked at 9 homes today and liked 3 (well, 3 would work). We look at 2 more tomorrow afternoon and tour all the finalist on Sat afternoon with my parents. We made good progress today! It's almost 8 and I am so sore and ready for bed!
