Overrated: -Character meals- mediocre food, picture are never that great and there's always too much commotion. We've never been to one we have wanted to go back to, except for those pesky kids. so we're begrudgingly doing 2 this year. -Being told you have to get there at rope drop or you'll never be able to ride all you want!!11!
School Bread- Yuck Food and Wine. I am a Mom. I eat my food cold in small portions on top of a garbage can every night. Not what I want to do on vacation
Underrated
Upstairs at CHH - that place is like heaven on earth on a crowded day Stacy- She is my favorite Hoop de Doo Review- SOOOOOO cheesy SOOOOO fun.

Over-rated: Hoop De Doo review. I just didn't think it was that funny/fun. Rope drop at MK. I like being there early to get on rides, but I don't find the actual ceremony that interesting. Trying to see the animals at AK other than on the safari ride. They've never been out when we're there.
Under-rated: Club Disney at HS. We all LOVED dancing with the characters. Sword and the Stone show at MK. DD was picked and it was a highlight of our trip. Peoplemover

I really think the key here is having a server who keeps the sangria coming. Like never let's your glass get past half full. The more you drink the funnier they are.

I agree with all of yours, Brie. We love the Hall of Presidents (and the America movie!). There especially awesome if it's really hot outside.
overrated: Spaceship Earth Peter Pan New Test Track (is this overrated? Either way I hate it. I much preferred the old story - i realize it's the same track) Frozen Singalong THE GODDAMN GLOBE part of Illuminations. OMG. It's Tough To Be A Bug
Food and Wine. I am a Mom. I eat my food cold in small portions on top of a garbage can every night. Not what I want to do on vacation
haha!
i agree underrated: voices of liberty (thats my DREAM job...still holding on to hope that when the kids are grown DH and i will move down there and i'll get to sing with them!)

Overrated -Chef Mickeys. Noisy, crowded, mediocre food, overpriced! -California Grill. Used to be an awesome, somewhat romantic dining experience until parents discovered that you can watch the fireworks while you eat. -Zebra Domes at Boma. WTF do people go nuts over these things. They are meh. -Test Track. Boring boring boring. I am a bit biased though b/c the damn ride was supposed to open up in 1996 when I was working at EPCOT and it kept getting delayed b/c the cars were crashing into the building. They would do the test runs at night and we had to walk under part of the track to get to cast services and they would scare the crap out of us in the dark!
Underrated -American Adventure and Voices of Liberty -Kaki-Gori at the Japan Pavilion -Saratoga Springs. I don't get the hate for this DVC property. It is quiet, the rooms are nice, it has a nice spa, close to downtown Disney. ETA- Country Bear Jamboree. When I was a kid we would end the night at Disneyland at Country Bear Jamboree. I was so sad when they took it away and replaced it with that horrid pooh ride. I squealed like an idiot when I was at WDW and discovered that they still had it.

Overrated: Soarin' 7DMT Rock n Rollercoaster (it's fun, but not worth waiting more than 20 min) Meeting characters and Character meals Mickey ice cream bars
Underrated: People mover Tiki Room The Seas at Epcot

Overrated: Character meals The safari at AK Finding Nemo show at AK The Finding Nemo ride at Epcot The Muppets show at HS. I think its literally the same show we watched when it was MGM studios in 1993
Underrated: Tom Sawyer island (my DS loved it) Festival of the Lion King at AK Its tough to be a bug The Land Monsters Inc Laugh Floor
Overrated: Peter Pan (I know, I know. Don't kill me.) Hollywood Studios in general. I liked a few things, but I'm sad we wasted a full day on the park instead of a half. Illuminations. Cool, but "meh" after seeing some of the other night shows
Underrated: Carousel of progress, for sure Rope Drop! I'm a complete dork, but I had SO MANY FEELS. The Haunted Mansion. Yes, it's old and cheesy but it's still my favorite ride in the parks.
Overrated: Food & wine - it was a good use of snack credits on the dining plan, but super crowded. Also, the pierogies were freaking Mrs. T's minis that you can buy at the grocery store. AYFKM? Rude people at parades - I almost got into it with a >6' tall very overweight couple (only adding this because they were REALLY HARD TO SEE AROUND) who stood directly in front of our double stroller that I had in the second row from the curb for the Christmas parade. Fucking stand behind us, H is 5'10 - you have a clear view over us. Thanks for ruining the view for my young kids, assholes.
Underrated: POP - great hotel for the money Dining plan - I didn't find it to be too much food at all since it was two meals a day, essentially. We used the snack credits left over to buy $$ themed treats to bring home. Character Meals - the girls LOVED them and the memories were priceless, plus no waiting in line to meet characters otherwise Trips with young toddlers - the girls really had a great time, plus they were both free when we went.

I'm surprised that a few people have said character meals were overrated.
We did a short stay - 3 days/4 nights. We did 3 character meals and I'm so glad we did. We got to see a good variety of characters - all the princesses at CRT, Disney Jr. at Hollywood Studios and Mickey and Pluto at Ohana. Also, we were there in August when it was really hot. CRT and HS were lunch which worked out great as a mid-day break in the AC without having the leave the park. DD was nearly in tears before our CRT lunch. It was our first day at WDW and the heat and humidity was so much more than we were prepared for. She had a totally different outlook when lunch was over.
We also liked the dining plan. It helped that we had 1 yo twins so they ate using meals and snacks from our dining plan and we didn't have to purchase much (if anything) extra. It worked out perfectly. The next time we go (not even sure when that will be), we will still probably get the dining plan even though everyone in the family will need it since the boys are now 3. I like the idea of everything being paid for in advance. In my head, it makes things simpler even if it is slightly more expensive.

was5, I think they are overrated because you almost always have to wait beyond your reservation time, have to hurry up to eat the mediocre buffet food and so your kid can get 5 seconds with each character. We were able to see Mickey, Goofy and Minnie at the Epcot character spot with maybe a 10 minute wait, so it just doesn't seem worth it to pay for an entire meal for the privilege.
The animation building with Turtle Talk and such at DCA
Bugs Land
Storybook Canal Boats (I like miniatures, ok!?)
Umm Brady would have to argue with you about hyperspace mtn. It's his favorite. He also loves star tours. I don't like Star Wars but I don't mind star tours

jeaniebueller, I guess we were lucky. The only time we had to wait past our scheduled seating time was at HS, which did suck because it was hot and the middle of the day. However, I think we might have been the last seating time for lunch. We were the last ones there finishing up. They were cleaning around us, but the CM kept telling us we didn't need to rush and to take our time. I also liked Ohana for breakfast because it was a really relaxed pace and they kept refilling our platters with more food. Maybe everyone just took pity on us because we had 1 year old twins.

My kid doesn't care about meeting characters, and we're not a fan of buffets, so we have no interest in character meals. I'd probably feel differently if my kid loved the characters. We did Chef Mickey's once, and we were all very underwhelmed.
Overrated Fantasmic Character meals Dole whip, I don't get the love
Underrated Peoplemover Tiki Room EPCOT for younger kids. I think there is tons of stuff for them to do. We have wasted so much time just at the play areas at the end of the Imagination and Spaceship Earth rides.
Overrated: Mine are all food related! -Buffet dinners (breakfast food is so much better at buffets) -Magic Kingdom dining choices in general -Rainforest Cafe and the TRex food place. Yuck.
Underrated: --Non-park activities including Disney movies by the pool (I literally cried while watching Mary Poppins at Caribbean Beach last time. There was something about being away from the crowds and watching a Disney movie in the place Walt Disney had dreamed up, and I just got all choked up.). Renting a boat was also fun. --The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights show that no longer exists. I thought it was awesome. --Spaceship Earth

Mine will be very unpopular:
Overrated Animal Kingdom (I KNOW but we have a fantastic zoo in my city that we are members of, so for us, AK is just super crowded with some rides my kid is too short to go on. I'm sure this will change when everyone is old enough to ride everything and sit through the shows)
Underrated The EPCOT hotels- I LOVE how they are quiet and of course the location. All I hear (IRL) is how "oh, you couldn't get a monorail resort?" (This is officially the biggest FWP ever LOL!)

We stayed at Boardwalk and then stopped by the Polynesian. I so much preferred the Boardwalk location - because we could walk to two parks and other resorts and it was much quieter. I'd pick the Boardwalk location again in a heartbeat.
Boardwalk was my favorite too, but then we stayed at BLT last summer and I love how central it feels. We spend most of our trips at MK so I loved the walkability to MK. The walks to Epcot and HS from Boardwalk are nicer, but we spend less time at those parks.
We're at Disney right now so I'm still forming opinions, but I had to chime in to say all 5 of the kids in our group loved Peoplemover. They asked to ride it twice.

Totally agree about AK. I really wanted to like this park but just can't get into it. I am tempted to skip it completely on our next visit.
Peter Pan (it's fun and cute but short and not all that amazing, considering the wait times.)
Turtle Talk with Crush. Meh.
Hollywood studios with little kids (we went when DS was 3 and DS2 was 10 months. The whole thing was pretty meh for them compared to the other parks.)
Underrated:
Tom Sawyer's Island. For some reason this is one of my favorite places at MK.
Hall of Presidents
Peoplemover
My DS loved, loved, loved Tom Sawyer island. Its a great place to let kids run around and take a break from the hustle/bustle of the park for a few minutes.
