This argument is fairly pointless, but do you live near an ocean? Growing up we swam around sharks all of the time. (We obviously didn't see the fins and run into the waves, but you knew they were there.) I remember many times, seeing an overhead view of the beaches on the news and you could see all of the shadows of sharks. We were never kept out of the water. I don't really think this means anything in relation to the alligator attack, but sharks are frequently present without warning signs.
Yes, I grew up by the water and swam with sand sharks and other harmless sharks and we all know the beach won't be 'closed' for those sharks. But, hey, if you can find me a safe alligator we can swim with let me know!! Lol.
Hey, neat story! I wasn't referring to sand sharks.
Ok...if the sign is up that says no swimming and it's because of Alligators and the family "should have known better" then why shouldn't disney have known better?

I'm not saying the family should have known better. I'm saying it's a tragic accident that couldn't have been prevented by signs, family, whatever.
The beach patrol/city/town? I guess whoever would be responsible for that area of the beach.
I was being flippant with the movie night, obviously, but I think the thing that bothers me the most is that resort was PURPOSELY drawing people to the beach knowing there were alligators that week. They could have easily moved the movie night but by purposely placing an activity directed at children near a potentially known hazard they are responsible.
Ok, yes, you're right. Disney purposefully lured unsuspecting families / toddlers to a beach to be devoured by predators they probably planted in the first place.
I spent way too long trying to come up with a good joke, lol.
You know what I mean. Of course they didn't lure, don't be ridiculous, but they clearly assembled people by the water and enticed people, especially children, to come to the water, at night, with known alligators. And, like I said about sharks above, there are sharks you can swim with all day long with any safety concerns but I don't believe that exists in any species of alligators that I am aware of...not be snarky.

I think you lost your point somewhere along the ocean current, but, I am TOTALLY down for a 1/2 day "swim with the alligators" boat trip. Sounds rad.

Look, you're the one who tried to make a comparison to sharks. It was an inaccurate statement. No, when sharks are present they don't just shut down beaches. And no, I'm not talking about a damn sand shark. Black tips sharks, bull sharks, these were the sharks in these waters. Our beaches weren't shut down. I believe you lost your point when you tried to make a comparison and spouted off false information.
As I said, I don't even really think this has much to do with the alligator argument, but if you put it out there someone is going to correct you.

I disagree. If I saw no swimming, I wouldn't think DS couldn't make a sand castle or something by the water.
If it said "Beware of Alligators" I wouldn't be within 50 feet of the water.

Sure, you would have obeyed the sign, like I said. Would it be a deterrent to the Nebraska family / every other non-MLer? Would a child have been safe on the edge of the water versus a few feet into it? Who knows.
