King of Prussia is my mall and they are doing a big construction project connecting the malls and adding more stores that I can't afford to shop in, so our mall is doing just fine.
The other malls we go to have definitely changed. The one still has a few anchor stores, but the jcp is becoming a bowling alley. A medical office just moved in and several stores have closed. Oddly enough, they are filming Mall Rats 2 there. The other one is definitely in decline, but new owners came in and are really trying to turn it around. I loved taking my kids here when they were little babies bc I felt comfortable there, so it has a special spot.
I'm 10 minutes from the Mall of America so, no. They just opened a huge expansion and are already planning another one.
But even the mall closer to me is still going pretty strong - there's turnover but not as much as in the past. I think part of it has to do with the weather here - it's shitty for half the year so we need decent indoor options.
Same. We must live close to one another.
Southern suburb....... The mall name rhymes with Turnsville Renter. Lol
Me too! Growing up we joked that Paramus was Lenne Lenape for "land of the shopping mall" It actually means land of the wild turkey I think we have three major malls in town and another three within 10 miles. None seem to be suffering.
I was just home and the malls are.... wow nothing like they use to be! Still interesting to see some of the big chains like Victoria Secrets and stuff finally trying to show up.
Yes and no Two of our malls are doing well, the outlet in the falls and the galleria are the two top destinations for Canadians, so they are doing well, lots of high end stores in both. Then there is the boulevard (closest to me) and eastern hills, and McKinley. McKinley and eastern hills just lost their Macy's. And a bunch of the teen/twenty something stores (Abercrombie & American eagle and one other I think) just closed in the boulevard. AbercrombieS spot turned into a cute bookstore! Boulevard still has their two Macy's and a penny's, but they just converted the food court into a dick'ssporting goods store so there is no place to eat other then Friday's and fishbone grill. Eastern hills is always empty even at Christmas so it's nice to shop there, and even though Dave & busters left for the galleria they still have Duff's wings (which is better IMO) and a food court. In both the boulevard and eastern hills it seems like a lot of smaller locally owned stores are taking over.
They are constantly expanding on one mall here, it's always super busy. The other 2 malls just outside the city are pretty much dead. One has leaks all over and is basically a Sears and Macy's with weird stores/hobby places that open and close relatively quickly.

When my husband first moved here, he couldn't believe that we had GSP, Paramus Park, Willowbrook, Rockaway, the one in Jersey City, Short Hills, etc all within 10-30 minutes of us.

The mall I live near in London is a major bus hub so it gets a lot of foot traffic. It seems like some stores stay and some don't but it's always full of stores. There are two HUGE malls much further away and they seem generally packed. I think for Londoners it's easier to get to and shop at than in central London (full of tourists) and they are somewhat 'newish' to them (two of the malls came up in the 12 years I've been living here).
