I've read that the bus and monorail at the Poly is hit or miss and leans towards bad. How true is that?
I mean, in general the busses and monorail are fine but if it goes down or you kiss a bus by a few min it can slow you down. I've heard people complain about busses everywhere and I've never found them to be a problem. If you are up for walking at the end of the day BLY will get you home quicker though. I just like the poly. It sounds like BLT might be better for you on this trip though (cuts out the worries of transportation. Honestly you'll be happy with either, great choices.
What hotel does the Poly share buses with? I LOVE the theming of Poly but want the convenience of BLT.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been out of town since Thursday morning.
BLT is very plain. The pool is fine. 2 slides (tall one and then a handicap accessible one). Quick service food is regular Disney food but with great desserts and we really like the flatbreads. We do love the quick walk to and from MK and that it has 1 bedrooms which we always stay in (poly only has the studios and then bungalows).
Taking the monorail back to poly would only be a bit annoying at park close or literally right after the fireworks when people are streaming out of the park. Other then that I think you'd be fine!

Poly shares with Grand Floridian ( only during slow weeks & mid day) BLT $ Contempary with Wilderness Lodge.
Lol, now I'm thinking I should be looking into the Poly over the Yacht Club given these comments :-). So hard to make a final decision!!!
Are you wanting to do more Epcot or MK days?
My thoughts are that, because of food, we may be at Epcot more often. Even if we stay back and do pools one or two days we will still walk over to Epcot for dinner and fireworks maybe? We will probably do park days fairly evenly between MK (2 days), Epcot (2 days) and the others all 1 days. I've never done the dining plan though, so I could be wrong. We normally get a place with a kitchen and cook most dinners and just eat lunch out and a few character breakfasts. This whole trip is different for us. We have always had one baby or young toddler with us who really needed an earlier bedtime - I'm thinking that won't be the case with our youngest 5+ next year.
Our priority with a resort is a more 'luxury' feel with nice pools, drinks at the pool and some parts relaxing and fun for kids. Our last vacation we were at a resort with multiple pools, kids activity center, movie theater, etc and kids had a blast. Though that may describe most places on Disney property :-).
