My dad just called me that a letter came to the house (I'm domiciled there until I buy my own apartment) to confirm that my divorce was final on September 8, 2016.
Just in time for my birthday in 2 weeks.
I'm not going to go celebrate, but I'm not feeling sad either.
This chapter will be closed completely as soon as our house is sold.
What makes me smile is that I met a big group of my BF's UK friends this weekend and one of his closest friends took him apart at the end of the evening (after copious amounts of wine) to tell him he should marry me. He told me on Sunday morning and we both laughed, when I told him :"does he know that I'm still in the process of divorce?". Which now appears to be incorrect...
No worries: we are not talking about this at all: we just met, we enjoy living separately and plan to do so indefinitely, and neither of us has any need for another marriage!
I also had a house to sell after finalizing the divorce. It was weird to be done, but not done, then to be done done. But yeah!
And hey, if ypu happen across any sexy, single Scots who'd be interested in a pen pal, let me know 😉 I fell in love with Scotland, but it looks like its pretty difficult to get a visa to live there, unless, you know, you marry someone, lol.

I will ! lol
The only available Scot that I know at the moment is very gay, however. Wonderfully funny, but not into ladies, I'm afraid!

My divorce from XH was final on Christmas Day, 2003. The judge granting the divorce had to look at the calendar to see when it would be final, and told me Merry Christmas when she realized it.
Did anyone get some kind of "Final Decree" that was something other than a stack of papers when their divorce was final? I wish we got a "Divorce Certificate" when it was final like we get a Marriage Certificate to use as a legal document. Maybe it was just my court that didn't do that.

I said this same thing. I don't like having to show so many people (dmv, credit card companies, social security, etc.) my full divorce decree - which has financial info included - just to do something like change my name. I wish there was an abridged version of some kind.

We have that here in Belgium, but I don't need it, because the status of being married or not does not affect official documents, only the tax authorities and they are informed by the central register.

I had to do this too, it was pretty sucky. The DMV photocopied it for my file. Okay then.
