No, Ruth. WTF.
It's so disappointing to me that she brings up the discrimination she experienced and says she is "sensitive to discrimination on any basis", but can't seem to grasp the discrimination and violence black people are experiencing that led to CK's protest. That's an incredible failure of imagination and empathy.
I'm surprised not because she's a feminist or a liberal but because she's a constitutional scholar. I mean I guess she can have her opinion but I would think anyone who holds the constitution in high esteem would see how important protests of any kind are and how we should support that.
The fuck? I sincerely hope Sotomayor smacked her upside the head for this one.
So not the job of WOC to police her dumb ass, on the race front.
I am sorry for saying this.
My intent was to convey that she needed a smack, not that a person of color should do it. I chose Sotomayor as the person to dole out the smack because she was the Justice that wrote so movingly about Black Lives Matter in a dissent in the unlawful search case (Utah v something) a few months ago. In hindsight, I should have given more thought to the absurdity of the fact that my only example of a justice who would know better is a person of color who wrote a lonely dissent.
It was a shitty thing for RBG to say, and I'm disappointed.

Thus is disappointing, but not surprising. She is focused on issues that affect her. This is so outside of what she cares about. However she's not stupid and should have used that brain to understand that this is an important protest. The fact that she called it dumb is upsetting. How can you call a protest against the murders of POC dumb? I have lost a lot of respect for her.
Some of you have inquired about a book interview in which I was asked how I felt about Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players who refused to stand for the national anthem. Barely aware of the incident or its purpose, my comments were inappropriately dismissive and harsh. I should have declined to respond.
