My skin is so dry. I've used thicker lotion, like Eucerin, specific for really dry skin and it's not making a different. My knees and elbows are the worst. I look like I've been rolling around in chalk on my knees and legs. It's awful.
Yes, I have all the suggestions in the world. So first things first. The way you moisturize is very important. My personal preference is to get out of my bath and wrap up in a big fluffy towel and while I'm air-drying, I start applying my lipids. You want to be damp--not wet, not dry. Layering is also very important. This is key. You need one oil based component and one creamy component. So for example, my absolute favorite creamy component came to me from @kirkette . It's Kiehl's Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter.
I mix this with Argan oil and life is wonderful.
A good sub for this is the Body's Shop Shea Body Butter:
And you can sub in so many oils--coconut is a great one, joboba is good, too.
But your balm can be oily and you can pick up the cream as a liquid. For example, this is an old favorite (my grandmother got me started on this one):
I mix this with a creamy lotion, usually:
Also, are you exfoliating? Because if not, that's very important. An oily sugar scrub would probably be where you want to start.
I have many more, but let's pause here for feedback lol. SaveSave

This woman said lipids.
Honestly, anyone else's suggestions, save for @kirkette are going to be woefully inadequate here. Now I'm left thinking that my situation isn't as moist as I think it is.

Lol I have few true passions in life, but moisturizing is on the list. And yes, I do know I'm what's wrong with society.

Look, you stay soft and lovely. I can't even be mad.
I will say though that changing my cleansing regimen has done wonders for my dry skin. It's somewhat counterintuitive, but going back to good old bar soap (L'Occitane Milk is my fave) and a thick white washcloth has been a revelation. First, I know my shit is all the way clean, and second, everything seems to penetrate better. (that sounds dirty)

Haha. Mmm, L'Occitane! I haven't tried the milk soap before, but everything they do is great, I'll have to try it. Yes, that's why I asked about the exfoliation--they have to be able to seep in!
I'm just here for the recs. My hands are absolutely terrible but I could use more moisture all over.
You know this is the top three body parts to stop your youthfulness, right? Wrinkly hands, fat upper arms (I have this one something awful, the absolute worst of the trio!) and old lady neck. Please order some sleep gloves. You don't have to give in to this!

Thank you all. @syfy no exfoliation, I tried half heartedly (aka no consistency) and then gave up. I never thought to mix the crime with an oil. Ty for the recommendations!
I'm pretty desperate, any other products or tips you suggest?

I've heard this from a few people about using a quality bar soap is key. I can't give up my shiseido facial wash yet but probably should.

Yes, of course!
So, like I said, I think a scrub would be good for you. I wish Neutrogena still made their citrus sugar scrub, because it was so freaking oily. But it's gone. Anyway, Origins Ginger Body Scrub Smoothing Body Buffer is a good one.
You'd probably also like SheaMoisture Argan Oil & Raw Shea Body Scrub
Lush Buffy Body Butter is also good (the name is deceiving, it is a scrub, not a butter). Do get the case if you get this.
Just make sure whatever kind of scrub you get includes some good oils. You want to exfoliate and moisturize at the same time.
In terms of other creamy factors, I also really like: Shea Yeleen.com Lavender Honeysuckle Body Balm
Bliss body butter, but only as a lotion. This is not a real butter, therefore, not heavy enough to mix with an oil. It does well mixing with a Bag Balm or even straight up Vaseline, but if you pair it will an oil, it will disappoint.
Argan, coconut and jojoba really are going to be the best oils I can offer you, though. I like them all for different reasons, but I'm probably most partial to coconut because it starts off as a solid and liquefies in your hands which makes it ideal for mixing. I also like to use it in my hair so I like that it pulls double duty for me (although so does jojoba, but jojoba is pretty light--it's the one the most closely aligns with the scalp's natural sebum, which makes it idea for hair, but I think that probably gives you an idea of the heft of it--which pulls coconut ahead for me).
I like natural soaps for the most part. Right now, I'm using an olive oil and lavender soap I bought a few bars of while I was traveling, but generally, I get them from the Farmer's Markets or various festivals or the Soap Man lol - www.pureshea.com/products.php?cat=Premium+Shea+Soaps.
In terms of other tips, at night, I definitely pay more attention to my feet (during the day, especially if I am leaving, I don't want my shoes greasy lol) and then put my socks on, which keeps my feet really soft. I do use a loofah for exfoliation also. And I like body milks to soften my bath water, but I don't combine those with scrub days, because that's just too much. I think that's pretty much it, but I'll think about anything else. Really, though, just from what everyone has offered in this thread, you should be nice and soft pretty soon lol. Save
This morning I mixed olive oil with Nivea lotion. It was all I had on hand, lol. I'm patiently awaiting my amazon order with my sleep gloves and jojoba oil. I forgot until I was leaving that I had some body butters from Christmas in my closet so I grabbed one for my hands today. I'm going to mix it with oil tomorrow.
sfy, would aquaphor work like the bag balm you listed? I use it on dd so I have a whole jar laying around.

I was reading and thinking, wow, I don't think I've used Aquaphor in forever. And now, I think that's when I used to use it, when DS was a baby . It's Vaseline like but a little less solid in consistency, right? Yes, from what I recall, I think it would be good. You have to at least try it. I try stuff all the time because you never know when you will find a gem. If it's hot, you must share with the class lol. Save

You ladies are giving me life in this thread!! Love it!
Clearly, the best advice has already been given, but to make this thread even blacker, lol, I was at an event recently at a local VFW hall, and I won a gift basket raffle. The basket had a big bottle of Skin So Soft bath oil in it. Yes, the one from Avon. I didn't even know they still made this stuff and had never used it before. Now, I use it in the shower before I get out, and it has worked wonders.

My suggestions will pale in comparison but this is what works for me.
Before I get in the shower, I slather myself from my bald head to the tops of my feet in coconut oil. Don't put it on the bottom of your feet or you'll slip, and still be careful. If the shower floor seems slippery, throw down a few drops of shampoo to remove the oil from the shower floor.
I then exfoliate my body in the shower with a washcloth sprinkled with baking soda and then I wash with a bar of olive oil soap.
When I'm done, I rub myself dry to further get rid of dead skin and then I use coconut oil on my face and Aveda oil on my scalp and neck.
I wrap myself in a fluffy robe to stay warm and help the oils sink in.
sfy I just used a sugar scrub and GIRL!!!! IT IS THE BUSINESS! I'm tempted to wake DH up and make him feel how soft I am but I don't want to start nothing. I'm going to call my mama in the morning and cuss her out for failing to teach me proper bathing methods. I'm sure my call will result in me buying her new products but it'll be worth it.
Right now I'm only using budget products so my moisturizing journey will only get better. I used Tree Hut coconut lime sugar scrub and then moisturized with Trader Joe's coconut body Butter and jojoba oil. I'll use the body butter and almond oil on my hands before putting on my sleep gloves.
The aquaphor didn't work well. I was using it with some Nivea body lotion but the products didn't mix well and was hard to rub in. I should have expected that since it takes a while to rub DD down.

I understand. I'm glad you liked it! Sorry to hear about the Aquaphor, but the rest of your regimen sounds so delicious. And hey, more expensive products do not necessarily mean better. Some of the most budget-friendly products are the best.

I'm dead at your disclaimer. I haven't called her yet but I'm determined to say hell, damn, or shit. Definitely not all three in one conversation. I'm not snorting bath salts, I know my limits.

Good luck, honey! At least you can wear your sleep gloves full time in your hospital bed! Save
