If you had to pick one classic purse to own what would it be?
As I am not sure we are done having kids I do not want to invest in $$ clothes but do want to start increasing the number of quality classic items in my wardrobe. This year I have I've added 2 pairs of non Target shoes (Sam Edelman Petty in putty and Tory Burch Reva in black).
Next on my list is a good purse. Right now I only have one purse (b makawosky) since I'm normally carrying a diaper bag. Here's the purse
I have bags from Coach, Kate Spade, and Cole Haan. The Coach bags have all been gifts from my MIL - it is her go-to brand. They are not 100% my style but they are versatile and hold up well so I get a lot of use out of them. The Kate Spade bags are ones I have bought for myself. They are totally my style, HOWEVER - I don't think the quality is always up-to-par. That leaves me with my Cole Haan bag. It is beautiful high quality leather that has gotten even better with age. Only downside for me is that it is very plain looking, nothing really special about it. But if you are looking for one, classic bag...Cole Haan might fit the bill. Also I got mine for an absolute steal at DSW.

I never spent a lot of purses until DH splurged on this Dooney and Bourke Clayton as a gift. He got it almost 2 years ago and it's been great. I've used it almost every day during that time and it still looks perfect. The color goes with everything and it has a lot of pockets so it's not just a black hole inside.
The downside is that it's heavy (even when empty) and it's large, so I tend to fill it up which makes it even heavier.
I'm generally not a Dooney fan, but I really love the look of this one and the quality is fantastic.

I have the Everlane Petra in black, and its my favorite. Definitely a classic shape & color, and the materials are so nice that I think I'll have it forever.

Oh, I LOOOOVE this! It looks a little big though? Do you feel it overpowers you at all?

It is big in length but it is not big in width, if that makes sense. And it is extremely lightweight so I don't feel overpowered by it.
I work full time, volunteer part time and am a Mom on the go. I find that the medium tote purses are the ones that I go to the most. My current favorite is this Michael Kors although my bag is blag with beige handles:

I think I will buy a used designer bag. I would like to spend $500 but would go up to $1000.
Someday I would love a Chanel 2.55 but since I would only wear it on dates that is a lower priority than a bag I would wear more often.
Why is the neverfull such a popular luxury bag? I don't find it particularly attractive and don't like that it can not be closed on top. The "speedy" bag is cheaper and closes on top but I'm not so sure about the shape. I do like that you can get it in so many prints.

These LV bags are useless. Not worth the hype at all in my opinion. People just like them because they are recognizable.
Anyway, if you want a nice bag for less than $1k I'd look at Mansur Gavriel (lady bag in vegetable tanned leather or tote bag), Everlane, Madewell, Vince, Cuyana, and maybe Tory Burch.
I think you can also get some canvas Givency, Gucci, etc totes for less than $1k but I wouldn't want to pay that much for a non-leather bag.
ETA: if you don't need a large bag (not sure why I was thinking tote only) I'd also look at Sophie Hulme and A.P.C.
And if I were buying one classic bag to use for ever and ever if get a Celine Box Bag. But that's nearing the 2.55 price range.
LV Speedy 35 in the classic monogram print is at the top of my wishlist for a classic everyday "non-mom" bag. my stepmom has the Speedy 30 and I love the shape, but it's a tad small for me. the 35 should be perfect.
