My mom is backing out of coming on our trip, which is in 9 days. She's having panic attacks about flying, says it's too late for emergency apppointment for meds, plus she has 2 elderly (and very sick) animals she's afraid to leave in the care she of others. I think it's pretty much a done decision, now just trying to figure it how to get any money back. Any ideas?
--Airline has a $200 cancelation fee --We bought a second room on the cruise for her (and my daughter) which we obviously don't need - no refunds this close out --have 2 rooms booked at Polynesian through David's, only need 1 --already purchased her park hopper pass
Don't think I have any single friends/family who can go on such short notice
Disney was going to let us cancel everything but a very small amount when we called to check if we could cancel when we found out H was being laid off. So I think her park hopper could be canceled OR you could sell the tickets to someone else who is going anytime in the next year.
As far as the room, maybe ask David if you could try to find someone else to take it over and post about the room on Disney groups? If you discount it a little, maybe someone with APs would want to take an impromptu trip. Or maybe someone already going will want to upgrade.
Otherwise, do you have any babysitters who might want a free trip to Disney in exchange for sleeping in a room with your daughter each night and giving you guys a few date nights?
Is your mom able to pay you back for the lost funds?
I would certainly call everyone regardless of the official policy to see if an exception can be made.
I'd also be pissed at my mom. Is there any hope of convincing her to see a doctor this week or anyway she could be convinced into the trip? Is she willing to throw away thousands of dollars? (and if it's your money, I would except to be paid back).
Is flying the only thing causing her anxiety (old pets aside) or is she worried about the crowds at WDW, being on a ship, etc. If the whole trip is going to be anxiety inducing, it's probably best if she realizes this now, rather than going and being miserable and making everyone else miserable.
If it is just the flight, can her family doc write her a very small script (like 5 pills) until she can get in for an appointment? This would obviously depend on her history with the medication, if she has been on it fairly recently and if her PCP/family doc has prescribed it in the past.
