Are you sure you have to go to the courthouse to file the 302? The crisis center should be able to handle the 302.
Again, I am sorry
There's been a change of plans since my last post. : ) I called the facility where's he at currently. I told them of my intent to go to the courthouse, but even though they can't say "yes" or "no", it was implied that it's not necessary for me to take the action. That took a load off my mind. I was concerned that he was going to (somehow) talk them out of keeping him there. But the way he was ranting last night, I don't see how they would anyway.

Well, it is possible he may walk out of there if he voluntarily went into treatment. Just a little heads up...
The 302's can be tricky as they are taken away someone's rights. Someone else can file the 302, along with the crisis workers, doctor, police etc and they would be considered the petitioner.
In most cases it is much easier to handle if the client goes in voluntarily as petitioning a 302 is a pain in the ass- so it might be worth looking into. Make sure he put down your name on his contact sheet so you can speak with the crisis workers.
Once the county signs off on the 302 technically he should only be held for 72 hours but it usually longer. The client will have a hearing at the hospital to determine if he needs.more time- this is a 303. Under 303 they can hold him up to 20 days.
I would check with the crisis worker and find out what is going on and whether he went voluntarily or is under a 302.
Again, I am so sorry, dealing with mh issues is so incredibly difficult but he is lucky to have you
