We are in the process of purchasing a new construction home and I really want white cabinets. H seems to think that they'll get dirty, easily (he's comparing them to our stair handrail - we have an 11 year old, who often has grubby hands).
If you have white kitchen cabinets, do they get dirty, easily? I mean, I figure all cabinets get something on them from time to time and it's normal to clean them (I feel like I'm cleaning our small dark cabinets at least every other week). They will have drawer/cabinet pulls, so I think that will me a difference as well.
We are also building a new house right now and decided on white kitchen cabinets. From what I read online, dirt and grime that shows didn't seem to be much of a major issue.

Perfect - thank you. I am trying to convince H, but he's being difficult. I also tried to suggest white uppers and charcoal lowers (or even just charcoal island), but he was having no part of that idea.

We have white cabinets that we've had for about 8 years. Every once in awhile I notice some dirt/grime and have to wipe down individual cabinets. But the cleaning isn't too bad. If we were to do it again I'd choose white cabinets again.

We have white cabinets and a black island. I LOVE it.
Look on the bright side - if dirt gets on your cabinets, you need to clean it up. It's easier to see dirt on white, so your cabinets stay cleaner! And no, I've had white cabinets for years, and they never get that "grubby" look. I just wipe them down regularly and they stay nice and bright.

They get dirty at exactly the same rate that non white kitchen cabinets get dirty. You just notice it more quickly on white. Which, in my opinion, is better because then I'm more likely to wipe them down.

I agree!
My cabinets have some kind of laminate finish, I think...and while I may not have chosen it, I LOVE it because it's incredibly easy to clean! My boys are 3 & 6, I'm NOT a good housekeeper, and I have no trouble keeping them clean.
I have white cabinets, two kids 10 and 7, and we cook a lot. It has not been an issue or any more work. I have neighbors who have espresso cabinets and they complain that those show a lot of dust and every streak.

We have the IKEA ones, and they have that baked-on finish that is very wipeable. We have a kid and a dog, and have had no problems, and before I committed to these cabinets I read a lot of reviews online that had great reports. I mean, every once in awhile we'll spill or splash something, but we just wipe it off with a wet paper towel and it comes right off without staining. There's no smudge from where the dog rubs up against them or anything. My countertops are pretty patterned (beige granite) and it creeps me out sometimes when I realize there's a spill that I didn't see -- I'd rather see it and be able to clean it! I would ask to see a sample door, but hopefully even if it's just wood that they painted white they'll use that special glossy cabinet enamel paint. Our kitchen is tiny, and the white makes it feel really spacious.

Yes! This is my issue with our current cabinets. Not to mention the weird spot on them that was done at the factory, per the builder, so we kind of got stuck with it. So annoying.
I just love the bright/fresh/clean look of white in a kitchen.

wow, this is beautiful! Thank you for sharing. And your storage! Impressive!
I couldn't agree more about the granite issues and how hard it is to see stuff on it. We currently have that issue, so I'm hopeful the lighter granite will somewhat help. Nothing is worse than sitting down at our counter and there being a ton of crumbs. Gross!
I have white custom kitchen cabinets and I do love them! Remember that all cabs get dirty and need to be cleaned regularly. My cabs are still pristine (after being in use for over 3 years) and easy to clean.
Our cabinets are black. They show dust, they show pet fur, they show things that have been splashed on them that have dried in the right light. White sounds much easier.

Yes. Our current kitchen cabinets are espresso and I feel as though they show things much worse than what white would show.

I have white uppers and black lower cabs and while I have to wipe smudges off the white cabinets, I think dust and drips show much more on the dark ones. I love my kitchen, but wouldn't hesitate to get white.

Hi!! I was just thinking about you this week and thinking i hadn't seen you here in a long time. Did i miss pictures of your finished kitchen?? I'm glad it sounds like you are out of the basement kitchen!
Haha, we are out of basement kitchen! Having a dishwasher is the best. We had a second kid, so I'm just never on here anymore. I don't think I ever shared pictures because I was thinking we were going to get around to finishing details and then I would take some. That never happens, so I will have to rectify that and just share with you all.
