I'm not sure why you felt the need to explain to me which places offer such perks and why. I get it and duh, know why places like hospitals and non profit organizations can't offer such perks. I was just pointing out the tone deafness of V not recognizing those are indeed perks.
I always wanted to ask if she thought the people who cleaned her office building at night and went home at 4am got a car service.
Oh silly, of course not. Who needs car service when you can go straight from the office to a sunrise barre class and hit Blue Bottle before the morning rush? Now those are perks.

On the subject of crazy perks and saving money:
I never had anything close to a fancy-pants gig before my current job but I have to say that my favorite MM perk at this company is definitely the free tampons and pads.
It's such a small thing but tampons are damn expensive. And these are brand-name ones too!
I'm reminded of it because I got my period on vacation (whomp, whomp) and realized that I haven't had to carry feminine products in ages.
I'll start with yesterday. My weeks are really weird since I don't have a regular schedule. The one constant is that I make myself a latte when I first wake up, whether that is 4:30 am, 4:30 pm, or somewhere in between.
Friday (day off): Picked up a portable dishwasher, already paid for. Dropped off an old portable dishwasher for disposal: $10 Had sunglasses repaired (missing screw): $0 Bought dishwasher detergent and some chocolate dessert stuff, but made a pop can return: $11.49-$5.5=$5.99 Stopped by parent's house to see brother and niece who were visiting. Meals/drinks at home. Total: $15.99
Saturday (working night shift): Son woke up too late to pack a lunch for work, grabbed some "little cuties" and canned chili/soup out of the pantry and dropped it off with him when I went to town.: $0 Stopped at a Mexican market for pan fino, longaniza, cumin, ground oregano, and dried little fish (the fish are to make dog treats for parent's dog): $9.57 Picked up pellets for pellet grill/smoker (on sale $15 for 40 lbs), got 80 lbs), but used gift card: $0 Local hardware store had 20% off discount for "stuff you can fit in a bag". Got free reusable bag, plus wood glue, super glue, and outdoor mounting tape: $13.21 Will take food to work for tonight and tomorrow: $0
Total so far: $22.78
Sunday (night shift): Slept until noon, then got up and made a latte and gathered food for work. Total: $0
Monday (off): Woke up at noon, took about four naps. Went to bed early (around 9), slept almost all night. Total: $0

I had this perk at a previous job. While I have plenty of good perks where I am now, this is definitely one perk I miss dearly.
Basically, I want to move to a tiny tiny but lovely house/apartment with a small yard or patio. I'd like this close to a university medical center and walking distance from a couple of shops/restaurants. preferably temperate weather and MCOL-MHCOL. Does this exist?
Yep, Decatur, GA. There are 4 colleges/Universities close by, and 3 major medical centers, and several other smaller ones close by, and the CDC. This place might be a bit big for you, but there are lovely smaller places. Lots of restaurants in walking distance, a grocery, and most of your other needs.
I thought about starting my own - except this week would be an anomaly - we owe a decent chunk in taxes and my car lease is up. Bye bye monies, it was nice knowing you!
