So I love taking pictures and my iPhone kinda sucks at photos, it's an iPhone 5. I take a lot of photos at fire department drills, calls, at work (of coworkers and firefighters, not patients or public), firework shows we work and while we are out and about. I only post or share about 1/4 of the pictures i take since the quality sucks. I want a nice one before our vacation in November. I'm looking to purchase actually in the next few weeks. Except all the ones I like are over $1000, way out of my budget for my first camera. Does anyone have a suggestion for one under $400? H kinda freak when I gave him the prices and what I want to spend but I want quality photos, not grainy. Granted he spend $179 on a digital camera and thought that was too much. Plus the digital camera and phone sucks at taking photos or videos of firework shows we work. I may have to use that as my selling point 😉
My P&S camera is a Nikon Coolpix and I like it unless it's in darker lighting, haha. It does have a fireworks setting which I really like. Put it on a tripod and fireworks pics turn out great! It's getting old-ish though. We also have a Canon Rebel T3 which I LOVE. I need more lenses but they're as much as the camera was, lol. We used our wedding registry discount and gift cards/cash gifts from the wedding to buy it at Target. I think it was around $430 or so on sale but that was 4 years ago now. You might be able to find something similar for less. I love all the options it has. My suggestion no matter what type of camera you get is to go with Canon or Nikon. Personally I find them to be better quality than other brands.
We got a Canon last summer, I'd have to look at it for the specs, but it was $400 for the camera and an entire bundle of stuff (not sure if you need any of that) We've been really happy with it. It's the first really good camera we've had and it was a little hard spending the money but it was worth it.

katespade I would upgrade if I was due for it but I have another year. If I was going to upgrade the phone I want would be more then $400 out of pocket.
DH bought me a Nikon from Costco back in 2013. We have been really happy with it! It came with two lenses and was slightly over $400 at the time. Costco runs deals a lot of the time so I would look there. Plus, you can return anything if you aren't happy with it.
We also have a Canon Rebel. Ours was more than $400, but I'm sure they have ones for different price points. Canon and Nikon seem to be the go to brands. We got ours on a Black Friday at Electronic Express.

Thanks ladies! I'll start researching Canon and Nikon. I've always loved taking pictures and want to get a "starter" camera. We go to so many interesting places and would love to start scrap booking our adventures. Also I want to get good pictures of stuff we do at the fire house. Our $179 digital camera isn't cutting it anymore. Plus if I get good pictures of the fireworks and our crews setting up and breaking down the shows, our boss may want to use them for the company website.
