My husband is reading the book now - the plan is to wait till all eps are out and then binge.
Can you do that with Hulu? We don't have Hulu but are subscribing just for this. I was just worried they'd take away all of the episodes before we could binge them all at once.

I think that they said season one will be the mini series and season two will be her story after the book ends. I still don't know how I feel about it.

I am about halfway through the book, so I'm trying not to start watching until I'm far enough ahead. Can I watch the first three episodes without getting halfway

huh.
I don't know how I feel about that, either.
My dream series:
Season 1 is Offred's story, pretty much following the book.
Season 2 and subsequent seasons: get Atwood to write scenarios of other people, in other circumstances, caught up in the Gilead revolution. So, say, the story of somebody who ends up in the Colonies, or an Econowife.
Part of the reason The Handmaid's Tale is so good is that the world-building is amazing. There are so many stories of Gilead that could still be told...
Not sure why this got skipped over, but isn't this stealing?
::raises eyebrows::
This doesn't make it right, but Linie lives outside of North America and Hulu doesn't yet have an international presence. I know I would very happily pay for a Hulu account to watch this and The Mindy Project, but unfortunately that isn't an option for me. I'm just very happy we finally got Netflix last year.
I'm watching the 4th episode now. For a "government" focused on procreating, it's pretty fucking stupid to only have sex once a month. I guess no one had a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility...
This was all I could focus on this episode. I wanted to yell, "there's a window!!!"
However, I really like the show so far. I think they're doing a really good job following the book, and the little things they have changed don't bother me.

Exactly this, thank you. I pay for everything I watch and listen to. I can only subscribe to Netflix here (with a limited library). I still buy DVD's for the US and UK shows I can't see, but I was curious for this show and streamed it. I will be buying the DVD's once they're out, because I re-watch quite a lot of movies and shows. My reasons do not make it right, though.

which I think is just after the birthing scene and the kiss
?
It's been a couple of years since I read the book but I think the opening episode of the show gives away a few things that the book only gradually tells you about throughout, meaning you might be spoiled.

Also, had no idea until after I watched the first 3 eps that the commander was Joseph Fiennes. Where has that guy been lately? I feel like he hasn't had any projects since Shakepeare in Love.

He was Michael Jackson in that movie about MJ and Elizabeth Taylor. I don't know if it ever got made in the end though.

I think he does a lot of stage acting. I saw him at the National Theatre in London in 2003 although I can't remember what play it was.

I think that would be one of the biggest differences from when the book was written until now. Surely, even if they didn't want to use ART, they would still have a reproductive endocrinologist doing blood work and checking on your follicles to see when you were actually ovulating.

DH and I just finished Ep4 yesterday. I am liking it so far - but haven't read the book. Definitely curious about it now, so I will probably borrow a copy from the library on my Kindle.
I had serious nightmares after the first night of watching (we binged 3 episodes Friday night), and this feeling I was being watched all the time. Ugh.
