I have a question. I understand why you'd need life insurance prior to getting certain genetic testing done, but I didn't think these types of ancestry tests looked at any of that? That's not how the commercials sound anyway.
Because the FDA shut it down, 23andme only gives superficial health info now. But when I had it done several years ago, they gave more. I am in the process of getting life insurance and I did disclose that 23andme found a mutation for a clotting disorder. I'm still in underwriting but it may affect my rates.
I did match with a 2nd cousin who I messaged. He sent me some ancestry stuff that my great grandmother had put together. It was fascinating. My grandma on the other side is awaiting her results now. I can't wait to compare.
My MIL and her brother used the test to confirm their suspicion that they're half siblings.
