People won't cancel HBO. Game of Thrones premieres July 16. Also, the whole reason he's on HBO is because he made a not-great comment in the wake of the Iraq invasion when everyone was fake-patriotic-as-fuck and advertisers bailed from his show on ABC. Politically Incorrect actually began on HBO, so they offered him a new show 11-12 years ago now. More "creative freedom." I'm in a nihilistic mood today, I guess. Same shit different day.
The only real possibility is that yeah, HBO prides itself on creative freedom and high quality entertainment that can be edgy, but they really mean explicit, not racist. I'm sure even HBO has a line.
I don't think people will cancel but John Oliver is on there and they have another option for political commentary if they wanted to expand his show and dump Maher. Most of Bill Maher's draw is the panel discussion and guests. Slap 30 more minutes on Last Week Tonight and there you go.
I thought both Michael Eric Dyson and Ice Cube made great points as to why this was so bad. And I think this episode would be good to watch for anyone who would call themselves an ally.

I couldn't decide if I should boycott Bill or watch the guests - lol.

I think if you have qualms about supporting his show, you could watch on Youtube...I actually watched his first section with Dyson that way, then I heard about Ice Cube and watched the whole episode via HBO.
I understand why people want to boycott, and I think that is fair. I don't know if HBO takes into consideration the hits to the YouTube channel or not.
But you can clearly tell from the clip that Bill was getting annoyed at the conversation.
He was annoyed at it because he had already been schooled for 15 mins by Michael Eric Dyson earlier in that same show.
He needed them to show that he was "listening and learning" and that black people hadn't put him out to pasture so he should have been happy to be schooled lol. The white guy at the end talking about forgiveness was on my nerves. No dude you don't get to tell people when to move on.
