I Put my makeup brushes, lip liners, etc in the hotel room glasses. Keeps them from rolling all over, and feel like I'm at home. For long trips, I've brought those baby candles from bbw to feel at home.
This is such a great idea. I'd never have thought of it even though I use an antique glass at home to do the same thing.
Also, if you think you're going to be doing quite a bit of travel you might want to always have a bag ready to go with toiletries etc.
In my carry on at any given day I have makeup, and toiletries so this way I don't have to mess around with it when I'm ready to travel again. When I'm back from my work trip if my shampoo (for example) is empty I'll put a new one in the bag so it's ready to go again.
Then again I was traveling a couple times a month for a while so my carry on was already ready to go.

Most people have covered my usual hacks (i keep a bag pretty much ready to go with toiletries, etc., and just need my clothes, too, megstoo), but the hotel trick I have is to never, ever put my bag on the bed or the carpet-- luggage rack or tile floor only-- and to only use a hard-sided suitcase. I came home from a trip with bed bugs once many years ago, and once is more than enough for a lifetime. Even nice hotels can have them. (You can also check the underside of the mattress for marks, but it's not foolproof).
Has anyone found some sort of multi tool like a Swiss Army knife that has a nail clipper and would breeze through security? I've always got my eyes open for such a gadget but have never found one. They always include some type of blade. Supposedly a tiny blade should be okay but I'm not willing to risk the hassle of a TSA agent on a power trip making things more complicated than they need to be. Certainly not willing to risk my pre-check!
Not the exact thing but I always travel with a pair of scissors like in the link below, along with a travel manicure set and tweezers. Not sure what tools you need but Amazon has all kinds of mini travel screwdrivers and whatnot. I don't think it's been mentioned yet. I just got a power bank. I feel like my phone battery always dies so fast in the read so it's nice to be able to power up on the fly.

I used to carry one of these and I rarely used it and so when I needed it, it was usually low on juice! It was a super cheapo conference giveaway so that probably didn't help! :....(
