Vent - DD has stopped being a unicorn baby and doesn't sleep at night anymore. I didn't even get a 2 hour stretch out of her last night. This has been going on since last Sunday. I can feel a cyst on my tailbone developing from all of the sleeping in the recliner with her. DS is sick with a fever and congestion, so he is missing school today.

Vent: I'm on a business trip, didn't get into the hotel till about 1:00 a.m. last night due to a flight delay and now am super tired.
Weird Work question - I'm in one of our satellite offices. The General Counsel (my boss) is here with me. He mentioned that when we get in, we should just find an empty cubicle and work away. When I came in this morning, he wasn't here yet, so I asked one of the lawyers in this office where I should sit and she pointed me to an empty office (there are about half a dozen), so I took one with a nice view. Now my boss just showed up and placed himself in an empty cubicle. Now I feel super awkward. I'm probably over-thinking this, right?

traveltheworld, awkward, but seems like he would want to work in one of the other empty offices or join you in the office you picked. I wouldn't move to a cubical from an office.
Vent- H is eating crackers for me. All minor stuff. Everything is about his job. His career is like his favorite topic, and he is an expressive so I get to hear about it all the time. My co-worker also is an expressive and actually far needier and less educated, deals poorly with stress and change. I've been having to counsel her every day for about a half hour a day to an hour. Mind you I am not her boss, but her boss is tired of her neediness. Then counsel H. Then he complains that I ask him to do family stuff over his job which is like once every 4 months so basically I never ask. Lots of other guys do stuff during the week with their family and have less intense jobs. But he loves to spend money so he needs the higher paying, work more hours job.
So I have no childcare today and tomorrow, school starts Wed. So I took off so he didn't have to. So what does he do? Takes off Wed for the first day of school, no consulting me. Like WTF are you taking off a day that you have childcare instead of Mon or Tues so I only have to take one day? Sometimes he is soooo dense. Like soo dense! Drives me crazy.
Celebrations- no work today. Although my boss already pointed out a mistake of mine today. Thanks boss.
This is a celebration/vent combined. We saw my niece this weekend and it was great! She's 3 months old and summer has been so crazy for all of us we haven't seen her often. Before I knew it, DH was offering to take the baby for an overnight to give BIL and SIL a break. This week. On Thursday. He'll be home alone with the baby and our two kids on Thursday and Friday, so if he's up for it, power to him! I love how much he loves babies and he's really looking forward to it. BUT. DH never did overnight wake ups with our own kids unless I forced him awake. So... I get to take care of a baby overnight and then go to work on Friday? Thanks DH? But at least I get a ton of baby snuggles out of the deal!
ETA - Second vent. I still don't know who my kids have for teachers or if we need any supplies. No clue if we have a back to school cookout or something to attend. The public school has literally been silent since the move up day in the spring. School starts in two weeks. WTF? The other schools in town have stuff going on, so I'm assuming we will too. But when will I know about it?!
twinmomma- is there anything on their website? Ours has the supply list on there, and they never say explicitly that we have to buy them and bring them to the first event (meet and greet), but we did. Our website also has it on the calendar. I've already gotten 8 billion emails from them though. The amount of emails from our school plus aftercare plus PTA is mind boggling!
waverly, Nothing. I've been stalking the website, Facebook, and Twitter, since I know they update all of those regularly in the school year. The lack of communication is not helping my anxiety around kindergarten.
Today is the first day of school. DD is excited and happy. My vent is it is supposed to be a very rainy week. It could be a rough first week if all the kids are cooped up all day.

twinmomma, what about the local newspaper or stores? My podunk town still puts things in the newspaper. Our CVS used to post school supply lists and I've seen them at bigger stores like Wal-Mart and Target for those citys' schools too.

Celebration: this informal custody arrangement we have while still living together is pretty effing great. Over the last 2-3 weeks, I've actually had time to myself, I've had energy and alone-time to tackle some projects, and MH is not riding me constantly. I actually do my hair without trying to fit it in around H's workout and without constantly hearing him tell me how long I'm taking and how it's causing any and all of whatever problems we might have that day.
Vent: imagining the days coming when the kids are really not in my house during these times and I don't see them at all for 3 days, makes me very emotional.
Celebration: We are settled back in after the last of our summer trips with the kids. The weather was great yesterday and we ended up having an impromptu bbq yesterday with about 15 family members. Bonus points: FIL and MIL were out of town, so I got to see DH's relatives I like without dealing with MIL.
Vents: DS2 has a bad cold or something and is pretty miserable.
We're moving to a new daycare next week and I'm kind of stressed out about it. On just a logistical level, I've got a lot of stuff to get together. There is an open house for new families tomorrow night, and we're encouraged to bring supplies then. I just got DS2's supply list on Saturday and haven't actually gotten anything for DS1. I'm waiting to get today's mail before heading out to Target. More generally, I think this new daycare is going to be a bit of an adjustment. I was frustrated with our current one because it's not well managed and is kind of a free for all. We're moving to a bigger, fancier center associated with a local university, and I think it is a much more tightly run ship. That's generally good, but it will be a bit of a culture shock, particularly for DH who gets annoyed by following policies he thinks are unnecessary (fill out these 20 forms, label bottles precisely this way).
I'm still waiting to hear back on an interview date from the company that wants to bring me in for a final round. Really frustrating because I gave the recruiter 6 dates in the next 2 weeks I'm free, and now I'm in the awkward spot of holding all those days waiting for confirmation.
Celebrations: Our two DDs are on a get-along streak. They're playing together really well IMHO. They're super cute too. H and DD1 are gearing up to go see the eclipse and are super excited.
Vent: H will be out of two on one trip or another (work or eclipse) for the next three weeks. He's been really focused on getting ready for his trips lately and we haven't spent much QT together. I had the kids a lot this weekend, but didn't mind..... anyways, we get to bed last night after hardly talking all day, I'm exhausted and have work on the brain and he's bummed that I didn't want to get busy....i wish I could just turn life off and become a sexy wife more....
Celebrate. I actually got to hang out a little with friends this weekend including a nice bonfire and drinks. Sunday was very relaxing, however I don't even know what to do with myself and free time.
Vent. My boss wants me to remind my employees that they need to give notice of any changes of schedule in advance. We have to do some events at night or weekend, so I am kind of just get your work done and put your time in and we'll be fine. She is not I suppose.
Vent. Football and volleyball in full swing. Football doesn't seem to have its act together about when practice ends. I do not have time to wait in my car guessing when practice is over.
My kids played really well together all weekend. I got some really sweet pictures of them playing with their trainset, which they did pretty much non-stop Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. That was a relief since it was rainy and wet all weekend, so we couldn't swim or play outside.
Vent- DS resists all efforts to potty train. He's going to be That Kid at preschool starting next week. Sigh. I'm sad and frustrated and embarrassed.
twinmomma, is the school office open? Ours opened last week for school that starts on the 22nd. If it's open, I would call them or send an email to an admin. I remember being frustrated when DD1 was starting Kindergarten about a lack of communication and then we got information in the mail about a week before school started. Our school district has the same supply list for all schools and those lists are usually available at Target, Walmart, etc...
I'm full of vents today. I'm back to work. I don't enjoy waking up to an alarm. Neither kid cooperated with getting out the door, and I have a pile full of paperwork on my desk to get caught up on. I'm feeling nauseous and gross for some reason.
I'm really good at vacationing. I feel like I could be considered excellent at it if I had a few more weeks to practice.
I'm only working half days today and tomorrow. Today I'm taking DD2 back to school clothes shopping for Kindergarten; tomorrow is DD1 (for 2nd grade). My mom used to do this with us and I always loved our shopping days. Now I look forward to having them with my girls.
leap, I think they're open, but I'm not sure. Emailing the admin is a good idea. I'll do that if we don't hear anything soon.
Do all your Walmart/Target lists look legit? The ones that I see here are very clearly just crap that Walmart wants to sell you - they're not specific to our schools at all and feel really generic. I don't trust them.
twinmomma, our district also publishes them on their website. The ones I saw at Target (I never go to Walmart) were identical and had the school district logo at the top. But I can see how you would be skeptical if it just seems like a list of things. For kindergarten our list was really short (maybe 5 items).
I am in the same boat as you, mommyatty. My newly 3 year old is able to go on the potty, but could care less about being wet. If we remind him to sit on the potty or take his diaper/pull-up off, he will sit down and go. We have 3 weeks to get this figured out before preschool starts. I'm hoping something clicks soon. It would be nice to have only 1 kid in diapers now...
Celebration: We moved my parents yesterday. Their house is now empty and almost ready for closing on Wednesday. It is bittersweet to say goodbye to their house. My mom and I were both crying several times. They are living with me now until their new place is ready mid-Sept. So far, the kids haven't been annoying them too much.
Vent: I am so sore today and I have bruises everywhere. I've been popping ibuprofen since yesterday afternoon.
Celebration: My aunt and uncle from MN are in town this week and I get to see them tonight.
erinshelley21, I know your baby is older than mine - if she's at least 4 months old, sleep training is amazing. I am counting down the days
Celebration - first trip with family of five is going well. Baby loves vacation and did great on the hour flight and is sleeping better than expected in the rock n play in our hotel room master bathroom.
Vent - even though trip is going well, it is definitely all hands on deck and could not be classified as a 'vacation.' We fly back tomorrow on DD's 5th bday, and inlaws also fly in tomorrow. We host a pool party for 40 people for DD's bday Saturday (luckily at the community pool and not at our house), then on Monday DD starts K and DS starts in his new classroom at preschool. While this is all good stuff (maybe with the exception of inlaws coming , this next week is going to be crazy.

sdlaura the thought has crossed my mind. I keep thinking she will go back to sleeping. I'm trying to push MIL to get more milk in her since last week she only drank 3 instead of her usual 4. Big deal when the bottles are 5oz.

twinmomma, I've always been frustrated by the lack of communication from our school. I'm surprised that they don't have even an old supply list on their website. We've had ours up since the end of school but I realize that doesn't help you. We usually find out who the teacher is a week before school.
mommyatty, my DS wasn't poop potty trained until closer to 3 1/2 or 4. I didn't send him to 3 year old preschool because I didn't think he was ready emotionally but it also would have been an issue bc of potty training. Hoping your DS gets on board soon.
Had a good weekend - no vents, really. I painted the hallway and stairway and touched up the trim. We are slowly trying to get our house in a sellable place so it's not hanging over our head if a moving opportunity comes up.
Tomorrow, we pick up DDs schedule and get pictures taken. I can't believe this is her last year of middle school. I'm sure it will go so fast Then, they both start school next Wednesday. I'm so ready to have my house to myself again.

Celebration--my BFF is in labor! She lives 500 miles away & I keep checking my phone for updates (there haven't been any for over 2 hours . . .). I'm having trouble focusing on anything else!
Celebration: Between JCP sale and Gymboree store closing sale I got DD $300 worth of clothes for $60. Must of the stuff from Gymboree I bought a size up for next summer. JCP purchases gave DD a few new things for fall plus DD liked picking out her own stuff.
Vent: DD still isn't happy about school starting in 3 weeks. I talked her into writing her 1st grade teacher a letter telling her what she wants to learn this year. DD has started it off as I don't want to use fat pencils, I don't want to see K teacher at all, and I don't want you to tell me I can't do stuff. I'm really hoping I can get her to change it up a little so it has a more positive light to it.
supertrooper1, did it rain for you on Sunday too? It rained from early Sunday morning til mid afternoon and took all the smokey nasty air away. But a small lumber mill about 15 minutes north of us caught fire Sunday morning and as soon as the rain stopped the stinky wood fire smoke came back 3 times as bad since the fire is really close. They kept it to 35 acres and it is contained but they expect it to smolder and burn all week.
twinmomma, I've been stalking the school website too. We do a supply fee but they just posted end of last week when registration is tomorrow and meet the teacher night 30th. I would call the office staff is usually really nice.

186momx, we got a little bit of rain. Enough to settle the dust. The air smelled so good on Sunday morning-hahaha. That's too bad about the lumber mill in your area. Sawdust will smolder forever. Hopefully the smoke goes away soon for you.
