People tell me that my kids' names are "old-fashioned."
But these are people whose kids names are Apollo, Coltrane, Remy, and Malloy.
Coltrane!? 🤔
We get shit over the spelling of our kid's names. And people judge the shit out of Myles. Screw them. I'm the one who has to tell their name across the playground a million times.

I don't know your kids names, but I'm loving some of the 'old fashioned' names the 20 somethings are naming their kids here, like Jennifer, Amy, Sarah, Jessica, Kimberly. They're naming kids after their mothers, and I like it lol.

I have a friend who named her son a girls name. It isn't common in the US but is more common in the U.K. I judge it not a lot but a little to medium amount. I knew it was a girls name but didn't say anything because I am not a crazy asshole and figured she had google. We have a friend though who got drunk and told pregnant friend naming her son a girls name that it was a girls name thinking that maybe she didn't know (or maybe friend is just an asshole). It didn't go over well but I just stood there like that Michael Jackson gif with the popcorn except with wine.
There is a very cute guy who pops up when I use adblock on proboards. He gives me a guilting look every time I open a new thread. Sorry cute guy, I'm keeping my adblock. You can continue to shame me. You're pretty.
I just got my kid's report and she only napped for 53 minutes. She has been an absolute bear all week and her sleep has been shit.
Guys I really don't want to go home. I want to call DH and go "I'm meeting a friend after work, be home later," but 1-he's been sick with bronchitis and 2-I don't have any girlfriends to call spur of the moment like that.
My flameful is even though DH loves his job, I want to move. It is becoming more apparent by the day that we and our value system just don't fit in where we live. It took DH a long time to find a job that made him happy.
I feel ya. I am also here And in the south, not too far from you. I am a POC in a very racist, conservative Trump area. I honestly don't know how much longer I can last here. He accepted a promotion with a considerable raise to come here with the hope that this would be a 3-5 year gig. We are on year 3.
The flameful is that in my head I've already given myself a date where if We are still here, Im going to start making my own plans to move. By myself if necessary. I need to have an end date in my head to keep my sanity. This place is slowly killing my soul.

We are debating on letting our 10 year old take the PSAT in the winter. She was invited to take a special session with other gifted students. She will likely he the youngest in the group.

What's the debate?
I see no drawback.
My brother and I both did this.
She stresses test to the point of vomiting at times. Which is odd, because she does exceptionally well

A woman at work is kicking herself because her daughter missed the PSAT and now can't apply for a special STEM program (junior and senior year of HS) directly linked to a polytechnic institute. I say if she can test early and get better opportunities go for it. Good luck to her #genius
Edited because I saw your update. Poor thing. Well 10 is really young. I'm sure she'll have another chance when she's older and less stressed out.
This reminds me of a little girl named Willow. Alone it's fine, but her sister was Daisy.
I danced as a kid with a family of girls named after rocks: Jade, Crystal, and Diamond
When pregnant, one of my friends suggested the Supreme Court name test, take the name you are thinking and say out loud, "Introducing the newest member of the Supreme Court-Justice FIRSTNAME LASTNAME." If it sounds bad/unprofessional-don't do it.
@angryharpy , I got it -- Bonnie if girl. Tyler if boy.
Someone I served on a BOD with named his daughter Luna Firefly. I did have to laugh when I asked him if they wanted to do a play date and they couldn't because they were headed to a Renaissance Faire.

In my head, I've decided the name is Pippa, and I am snickering by myself.

After I posted I realized it was kind of a dick move to not say the name. It is uncommon enough though that I don't want to put it out there. However, now in my head that poor boy will forever and always be Pippa. Our next play date will be fun.
