"I am most likely in the minority as a minority in both of these opinions
First, I have absolutely zero sympathy for Colin Kaepernick, I hope he never plays another down in the NFL again. Did he have a right to protest the way he did last season as a result of the police violence in regards to the Black Lives Matter movement? Absolutely without a doubt. But just because you have the right to do something still does not mean there are not consequences for your actions. It is one thing to protest injustice, it is another to disrespect the symbol of this country that people have fought, died and sacrificed to protect. And yes, I know detractors will say, those people also died to give him the right and freedom of speech to protest in that manner. To those people, I say, then get the hell out of this country along with Kaepernick, If you don't have enough respect for that flag and what it stands for then go live somewhere else.
Second, this removing of the Civil War general statues is simply ridiculous. As a Civil War historian and moreover an African-American, I have never been offended at all by any statue of any Confederate nor have I been by the Confederate flag. This is a part of our history. I mean should we start removing every Civil War battlefield and cemetery where there are Confederates as well? I lived in Germany and I visited one of the concentration camps that housed and killed thousands of Jews. Most of these camps are still standing today as a symbol of the Holocaust. There are no protests. They are historical monuments of a horrific time period in history but one that needs to be remembered so history does not repeat itself. These statues are no different. Just because these idiots have rallied around these statues as a symbol or battle cry to justify racism is no reason to tear them down. As a matter of fact, by tearing them down we are on some level justifying there existence of these idiots and giving fuel to their movement. Just ignore them and let them go live with Kaepernick."
Tell him that he doesn't get to speak for all black folks, and just because he decided to live in New Black City with Stacey Dash and Don Lemon doesn't mean he gets to run around being the Token Black Guy here to tell all the white folks why all the other black folks are wrong.
Didn't Don Lemon get a day pass out of New Black City when he read 45 for filth, tho?
Yeah, this is the kind of guy who comes on Facebook to post a long ass one-sided, inflammatory diatribe and then he only addresses people who disagree with him to defend HIS side. But naturally, I feel like I need to change his address... ::eyeroll::
This person is a moron. There are no statues honoring Hitler in Germany, the false equivalency is ridiculous. Didn't they just arrest some tourists in Berlin for making the nazi salute? There are ways to commemorate historical events without honoring the oppressor.
“Crude and crass as most of it is and, really, uninformed as almost all of it is, the discourse about race is important. But the real conversation should take place among white people. They should talk to each other about that. Not with me. I can’t be the doctor and the patient.” -- Toni Morrison, Aug. 24, 2008
1234FIF!, I'm almost positive I could find one equally as dumb if I decided to go look for it. He's also one of those people who makes a dumb ass post like that and immediately likes it. Bitch, you posted it, we KNOW you like it. ::eyeroll::
