I have noticed my 11 year old DD is starting to get quite a few tiny acne bumps on her nose. She is oily in her t zone but nowhere else. I don't see acne anywhere else and the ones on her nose are more like tiny bumps, no noticeable black or white head.
What would a good skincare routine be for a younger girl so that she is not overwhelmed? What products, what order/method of application? What should she be washing her face with?
I would encourage her to use a moisturizer with an SPF.
I'd also use a very gentle cleanser to start with. Purity from Philosophy is gentle but may not be in the price range for an 11 year old.
Also, if the acne is causing problems for her (low self esteem, etc), I would bring her to a dermatologist - although it doesn't sound like you're quite there yet.
She does have milia on her upper arms but this definitely looks like acne on her nose. She has had an increase in the physical signs of development over the summer so I thought in this might be hormone related.
I'd probably also suggest a simple oil cleanse at night - I feel like that does more to clear pores than a foaming cleanser. And this varies by person, but I don't usually bother with a second cleanse after my oil cleanse - I just rinse really well and then put on my night moisturizer and call it good. so it doesn't have to be a complicated two part system.
I started breaking out in sixth grade and had a hard time finding products that didn't cause more problems because my skin was so sensitive. I finally went to a dermatologist in high school and got on a regular routine of a cleanser, toner, spot treatment, and gentle cream. Even though they are old-school, the Mario Badescu products for acne have worked really well with my skin. The drying lotion is good for whiteheads and the buffering lotion for those larger, under-the-skin zits. I still use the facial cleanser even though I'm in my 30s and usually only get a hormone bump now and again.
