seeyalater52 how many no votes are needed? Just 3 Rs? Or more?
If Collins, Murkowski, and McCain vote no, it's dead. Unless a Dem defects and I'm proud to say the most likely one, Manchin, has said he will not vote yes.

Everyone DO NOT LET UP. It's far from over, a lot can happen in a week. It's not over until McConnell announces that he's pulling the vote or the no vote happens.

Wow, I'm shocked. I thought he'd let it play out until next week. I hope that doesn't mean the GOP is seeing some success at buying off either Murkowski or Paul.
All I have running through my head right now is "holy forkballs, HOLY FORKBALLS." (I was watching the Good Place on the plane that just landed.)
Come on, Murkowski, come on....
Meanwhile I am having flashbacks to that time Heller came out against the bill... and then voted for it. I am clearly not in a very good place today! I like your thoughts better.

There is a minuscule chance that they are going to try to regroup this weekend with a different plan to get something through before Sept. 30th. Sooooo many things up in the air right now, my head is spinning.

I thought he didn't want to put it on the floor unless it would pass to avoid another public display of failure. I guess now rage and a desire to call out dissenters may be overruling that?

Did anyone watch the Vietnam Ken Burns episode last night... it ended with McCain's interview just moments after having his bones set by N. Vietnamese without any anesthesia? I really wonder if seeing himself in that clip, where he was medically and emotionally in pain and realizing the ish that DT said about his POW time made me buck up and say I'm declaring "no" on that BS bill.

He thinks the deadline is going to make a difference this time. It's a different scenario for sure pressure-wise but I'm hoping that's not enough. It makes me nervous though.
Joe Kennedy (MA) posted this on Facebook this evening (sorry, don't know how to post a screenshot). I just sent an email...
For anyone who has an opinion on what Graham Cassidy would mean for our health care system, you can send all of your thoughts to the Senate Finance Committee at GCHcomments@finance.senate.gov until Monday at 9AM. And I mean all of your thoughts.
This kind of makes me laugh. Fix on what floor? They don't have any debate time to get to consensus. They could introduce amendments to the amendment but they'd need to get agreement in advance because they have no time and the clock runs out on 9/30. If this is their plan I almost feel better!
I wonder if McCain would vote for the MTP as he typically says he will always support MTPs because he supports debate - but in this case there is no more debate time so I wonder if he will be like "I am done supporting this whole thing."
It makes me nervous Murkowski is not yet stating a position. Her governor opposes. Every analysis coming out says Alaska gets trashed. All of the industry people - patient groups, doctors and hospitals, Medicaid people, actuaries, insurance companies - all say this bill is awful. She voted no last time and was hailed as a hero in her state. She is largely elected by independents and Dems and previously won as a write in after losing a primary so I feel like fear of the base is maybe less of an issue. She owes leadership nothing. So......what is the hold up?
TBH I kind of feel that way about Collins too - why be coy with "leaning against" if you are a no? Shut this down so that the Senate can focus on like CHIP and FAA reauthorization and turn back to bipartisan stuff.

WHEW. Good deal. I needed to hear your reasonable (cough, KNOWLEDGEABLE!) voice!

From the mouth of Collins' own LA she is a definite no. She is feeling a lot of pressure from leadership and trying to minimize the drama directed at her from conservatives over the next week.
Murkowski is more complicated. I don't think she's ever said definitively yes or no about a vote this far out, and with few exceptions she keeps her vote close to the vest. She is definitely not on board with any solution that has been presented so far. She HATES publicity - good and bad.
The reality is that this isn't going away before the end of next week unless something else big happens, and I don't think a stronger statement from Collins or Murkowski is going to be a game-changer. This is going through to the end, especially because they appear to have the votes for a motion to proceed (I think McCain and Paul may still vote to advance.) I agree McCain's logic isn't there on the MTP but they will be able to offer amendments during vote-a-rana so that may be enough for him. They don't have enough time to pass CHIP before the end of next week either. They don't have time to do anything except sort out this mess because McConnell will not let it go.

I mean, it doesn't seem viable to me AT ALL if it's done on the fly, but admittedly weirder things have happened. I'm wrong a lot - we all are right now! - but I hope I'm not.

Oh super, so a bunch of kids may suffer from the failure to do CHiP reauthorization because of a bunch of tantruming senators and mega rich donors.. Faaannntastic.
Also if I have to read one more GOP statement citing Obamacare premium increases as the justification for pursuing this bill I am going to lose it. Trump was tweeting about increases in Arizona and Alaska this morning, and yesterday Cassidy put out some statement that was like "as long as families are paying super high premiums I will continue to fight for them by pursuing this bill." Which would all be well and good if this bill might lower premiums but everyone including insurance companies says it won't, so GTFO with that talking point.
