My chief complaint with chip & Joanna is trying to make Waco seem great. Waco sucks and is ridiculous, gtfo. I don't even watch the show but so many people I know were all, "omg I need to move to Waco!" 😒
Hgtv is mindless to me and doesn't make me feel inadequate or want to move. The minute anything remotely annoying happens in my house is what makes me want to move. I wish my h would just listen to me every time we move lol. I want a zero maintenance townhome or something without a basement to be afraid of. YET HERE WE ARE, AGAIN. The longest I've ever lived anywhere in my life is like 3 years, so I'm pretty nomadic and get restless, even though I insist I hate moving.
I swear this is my forever house, but let's be honest, I'm the same. This place is pretty zero maintenance for a SFH, so I'm happy. The scary basement is not my favorite, though. I won't go in unless someone else is home with me.

I'm not afraid of it because it's creepy lol. I'm forever terrified of water after our last experience of basement flooding. I didn't want a basement again 😭
I think I'll be surprised (but not shocked!) if there's anything nefarious going on. Joanna seems pretty business savvy and I think they are probably plenty busy with their other ventures. Those probably make more money long term now that their names are out there.
Also, HGTV will run re-runs of their show for years to come. They'll still get plenty of money out of the show. I mean, does anyone "actually" care if its a new episode or not? They're all the same - greige paint, shiplap, cute moments with the kids, Chip is goofy but Joanna still adores him, big reveal after Joanna spent all night decorating - I don't care if its an episode from 2017 or 2014. For me that particular HGTV show is just kind of a mindless pleasure - it doesn't even have the predictable drama of Love it or List It (omg, there is a major structural issue with the house which means Hillary cant do everything they asked!!!!) - which is fine.
But I think as long as reruns are airing they will still get plenty of publicity from HGTV.
I don't think they will. HGTV doesn't typically do reruns of series that are no longer in production. They use all their reruns to promote current shows.

Right. And someday "farmhouse mod" will be dated. I know. Shocking.

Someday we will watch HGTV reruns and think "WTF was all this greige about??"
But for now I love my 2016-renovated greige house (I do not have any shiplap FWIW.)

The best thing about Waco is that it's close to West, which has THE BEST KOLACHES EVAR. But I'd rather just learn to make kolaches than live in Waco.

Oh, ours is just creepy AF. The house is from 1891 and it's more of a cellar. And so many spider webs

Truer words never spoken. There's a reason why those houses are all so dirt cheap.

You can do it! Do you have a kitchen aid? If so, it's a breeze.
Oh man, I'd love to see this one on McMansionhell or whatever that blog is. I'm not even an architecture guru or snob or anything and I can pick out about 94 hideous things in this picture.

Exactly. Plus you can just grab them on your way to San Antonio or Austin.

It is the same as Why was everything beige, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances.....we don't move on that far, lol.
In the small pic, it looks like a funeral home. The long driveway is where the hearse pulls up and the big overhang is where the mourners wait when its raining.
It is definitely a residence and I should have looked for a street name when I was on it because it doesn't show up on google maps. The house does, on Satellite, but there is no street name. It is either in Pearland or Manvel, right on the border. It looks like the house was built and then that port cochere or whatever those things are called was added later along with some poles to make it fit in.
I was curious about this street that looked like homes with really big lots so I turned and WHAMMO it was right there.
