Where does Murkowski stand? I'm in the woods with 45 8th graders and limited cell service, but last I heard, Alaska was basically being bribed by being offered an "out" if she voted yes.
She doesn't seem to be biting. She has made some very strong statements about not accepting any "bribe" that is Alaska specific, so hopefully that sticks. And other Senators (and House members) are not pleased that they're not getting their own sweet deal. I think it's a non-starter.
We're hearing now that it's possible they will shift away from G-C and try to cobble together a new proposal by the end of next week, but I don't know if that will pan out, or how much of a threat it will pose if they do go down that road. So many questions.
Do you think they'll try to just do straight repeal with no replace?

I don't know. That's kind of what the skinny repeal was and it failed on the fooor, so I kind of doubt it. I don't think they have a plan yet, they may just keep amending the fuck out of G-C to try to win someone back and it's too early to tell f they wooo be successful.
All I can say is we are in a much MUCH better place right now than we were this morning.

I don't know much about her, but I learned this am that she lost the R primary and ran as a WRITE IN INDEPENDENT, and won! So she is not beholden to Turtle McTurtle or anyone else.

Yeah she is a bad ass bitch who don't need no man. That is one of the best stories in politics period as far as I am concerned.

Theoretically, McCain would still vote no because of due process. Which, if he is a no on his BFF's bill, I imagine he'd continue to hold. And finding something that Murkiwski, Collins *and* Rand Paul could all agree on seems almost impossible. I just don't think there is anywhere for them to go. Knock on wood.

How could they do a brand new bill by the end of the week? It would need a CBO score, no? If there's not even text how do they get a CBO score in 5 days?

It would not be brand new content for precisely the reason you mentioned, probably a Frankenstein proposal based on other components that have already been scored. That's how they got a score for skinny repeal basically overnight don't forget. We have seen this song and dance before.
I'm not saying there is any answer to how it's going to pan out because at this point no one knows. All I'm saying here is that the grossly irresponsible and misleading headlines about how repeal is dead or derailed now are dangerous and it's important that we keep tabs on where this is going because it isn't over until a week from tomorrow and even then in theory it could be revived if they got ambitious with the 2018 reconciliation. Vigilance friends.

Yeah, this actually compensated for being originally appointed to the Senate by her dad when he left his seat to become governor. Nothing like a little nepotism in government!
(Seriously, though, I don't agree with all of her politics but I do respect her more than many Senators these days, including that she had the courage to run a write-in campaign and skills to win it.)
