We've been out of town so I'm just catching up on this. Holy hell.
Also I want to remind people that there were posters on this board a few months ago insisting that the reason CK wasn't signed had nothing to do with kneeling during the anthem. And that he only started doing it after he stopped being so good. Etc.
I really wish I remembered who had said those things so I could call them out now.
What do I need to do to see the contents of empty posts in the thread? I think they are tweets?
Yes. They're all tweets.
I realize that 45 is pandering to his base, but I find this continued going after the owners odd. They do what they want. And I can assure you once you tell dan Snyder to do something he will dig his heels in not to do it.
When did they start showing the anthem? I feel like this is a new thing as well, newer than 2009. I get annoyed when they show it and always change the channel because I find it awkward to be hanging out at home when they play it.I feel like they only did it for the Super Bowl. I think hockey only does it for the playoffs.

I'm not sure if I was one of them, but I've definitely evolved on thinking it was both his activism and his play. The situation with the Ravens put that into stark relief. I'm embarrassed that I needed proof.

Are you on mobile or a computer? Browser or app? When on mobile I can't see tweets when I'm using Firefox and private browsing, but I can on regular Firefox and Chrome. So, it could be your security settings? I also think I've read that some people can't see them from the app.
Can someone help me to understand the part about the white players not kneeling but instead putting a hand on a shoulder? I have assumptions but don't want to make an ass out of myself. If it was in one of the links I missed it.

axios
White House director of social media Dan Scavino last evening cc'd Brian McCarthy, the NFL's vice president of communications (@nflprguy), on a Trump tweet criticizing Commissioner Roger Goodell.
The taunt reflects the fact that far from being sheepish about the president's sudden war with athletes, the Trump team is reveling in it.
Doug Sosnik — longtime NBA adviser, and former Clinton White House senior adviser and political director — emails me this theory: "One of Trump's typical moves is to toss a bomb out of nowhere to deflect what is really bothering him, in the hopes that the press will be distracted."
This week, "there is a good chance that the candidate he endorsed and campaigned for will lose in the Alabama Senate primary. On top of that, it looks like ... another failed Republican attempt to repeal Obamacare." "So he figures that the shows on Sunday focusing on his fights with professional athletes is more appealing than a discussion about how he is becoming a loser."
#45 is doubling and tripling down now. Some owners are responding back including the Dolphins owner who is apparently a big GOP donor.
I want to see a big name white player kneel or support those who do (like the Browns players). Like a Brady or a Rodgers. But I won't hold my breathe.
I don't.
if any entire team decides to kneel, I am here for it. otherwise, I'm in favor of the white players putting their arms on their black teammates who are kneeling (a la Chris Long, who has been doing this each game with Malcolm Jenkins). the browns (white) player who knelt ended up completely eclipsing the entire issue (not his fault) by turning the headline into HIM, and not the fact that he was joining black players who had been kneeling throughout the league for over a year. his (black) wife wrote a whole article about how problematic it was that her husband was made into a white savior, instead of just "duh, he's doing what's right and supporting his friends". white players can support without needing to stand on the front lines. their support still lends its weight.
kiiiiiind of like McCain swooping into the skinny repeal and being the headline, when it was THE WOMEN who had been getting shit done.
I'm shocked that kraft issued a statement and actually referenced the President.
he said politics is the most divisive thing in America. stfu, Bob. how about RACISM is?
and how's about all that money you donated to Trump? and how come you're still friends with him? and how come it took you allllll night to put out that super soft, mostly saying nothing, bs statement on "politics"?
it's a pass for me. wouldn't be surprised if he told DT beforehand he was saying it. nope.
Cheeto did not become a racist fuck Friday evening. THIS IS WHO HE WAS WHEN YOU WERE PLAYING GOLF WITH HIM AND GIVING HIM YOUR MONEY. Kraft is trying to play both sides, he knows the optics his silence left him in.
Yup. Kraft is a make America great again guy. He is part of the problem especially being an owner and not speaking up before this.

In case anyone needs the link to this to remind trump supporters that indeed he doesn't give a shit about what the veterans fought for or the military or really anything. (That is what I am seeing going around twitter as the reason trump is so offended)

So....all these team owners are now backing their players' right to peaceful expression - locking arms, hands on shoulders, public statements, etc....and yet Kaepernick still doesn't have a contract. I know it has only been like 18 hours, but they still only get partial credit from me at this point.
HE made the original statement, and brought the conversation front and center on this platform. He would be an immense asset to any team, both on and off the field, and they should be falling all over themselves trying to hire him. But they aren't (yet, as far as I know), so this is still about optics IMO.
