My mom and sister and I are running a race together for the first time ever. They want to match. Suggestions? Black capris and....something clever? or we could just all wear the same color, but I'd like something clever. I'm just not feeling clever.
I want trail running shoes. Is there a thing like, "if you like these road shoes, try this for trail!" or should I just go to my running store? Going to my running store is hard - requires ditching kids and finding time, etc etc. I'd almost rather just buy them somewhere online with a good return policy and try them out. The treadmill in the running store isn't going to give me a good feel for trails anyway? I dunno.
I might do a trail marathon this spring. I really wish I had the scratch for a coach right now though because I can't tell if my plan to merge the back half of marathon training with the front half of oly tri training is bullshit or not. I mean...I know I said I was going to focus, but we all knew that was a lie.
NH&FR: Tomorrow is a high holy day for me - Julien Baker's new album comes out. I plan to get up at 4:45 so I can lay on the floor of my woman cave and listen to it front to back before yoga.
I left my swim suit, cap, and two pairs of goggles in a locker at the gym yesterday. So, I'm not feeling too quick or clever, either.
My random is that I set a goal of 3 workouts this week, and have already done 4, with plans for Fri and Sat. Except when I'm done I'm starving and want a nap. But, some progress!
My kinda NH&F is that we're going to the World Series game tomorrow and I'm so excited! That also means it's probably going to be a bit of a struggle to get up on Saturday morning to do my 8 and get stuff done before our Halloween party, but whatever. It's going to be a fun, busy weekend.
Also, 4th quarter for my industry is the WORST. Can it just be over yet?

Yay trail running! I would definitely go to a running store and try other brands- I mean you'd generally be ok in a model that works for you on the road but there are some brands that only make trail shoes that you may like better. But honestly you may not even need trail shoes depending on what terrain you're running on.
This week I started getting calls from random people in my company congratulating me on my ultra, and I was so confused- like, how do you know? I realized my HR department put me up on the Company Spotlight section of our intranet- it must be a slow news month ;-) It has been great to hear from so many people though, and I think I've run-abled a few in the process.

wawa, I only have a little bit of trail running experience, but when I was running trails last year, I learned that my road shoes also come in a trail version. So I just bought those. They were perfectly fine. Most shoes don't have a directly comparable trail version, so I don't know if you'll be that lucky.
wawa I wear the trail version of my road shoes. Most of the major brands have them. I can use the same inserts and everything. I still prefer my road shoes though and only wear trail shoes for when there are water crossings or very technical climbing.

I found out after my run that ToddlerGT had taken the baby wipes I use to clean up with out of my bag, so I just used extra deodorant. It is a good thing it finally felt like fall today.
I ate too much (not good for me food) and drank too much (booze) last night, and I am feeling like a slug today.
I need a fucking plan. I'm clearly not capable of existing in a good workout state without one. I haven't been in the pool since September 16th, and haven't run since my 70.3, almost 3 months ago. I've also not done any PT work. So basically, I'm a slug who complains about being a slug but does nothing about it, and then doesn't do the things that will allow me to do something about it.

The left side of my body is revolting against me. I went to my kick boxing class this morning and it hurt like hell to punch with my left arm (shoulder pain) and do squat jumps (left knee). Come on body, I'm trying to do good stuff for you!

wawa - if your road shoes don't have big "holes" in the bottom where rocks could get stuck, just wear them for a run or two until you decide if you like it or not, then hit the LRS for a dedicated pair if you want - Altra and Hoka are seriously popular around here where we have, um, some trails and stuff. I did my first 10-20 trail runs (back when I ran) in road shoes and it was just fine, except for the damn rocks getting stuck in the mizuno heel holes (do they still do that?).
My random is that something in the last couple days has upset my stomach, to the point where I'm planning things *around* decent bathrooms. This is no bueno, and I'm not sure if I ate something unfortunate or if I've got a weak bug or if I'm developing something more interesting, but there it is. I haven't swam since I've been back because I'm afraid of what would happen in the pool. (TMI?)
And one more thing, pixy0stix, I was just watching your sig in fascination when the cat sneaked up and touched me on the side (he's hungry) and I screeched and nearly fell out of the chair. OMG - waiting for heart rate to return to normal. Thanks for that.
A Nor'easter is headed our way for Sunday, the day of the Cape Cod Marathon (my Chicago Marathon make-up). Is the universe trying to tell me something? As of now, it's not supposed to hit until the afternoon, but the Sunday morning forecast includes 90% humidity and 40 mph wind gusts. Joy.

I think I may have been seriously deprived of sodium lately. I have been feeling so sluggish and dead during Kickboxing this week. Last night I put a little too much salt in the pasta sauce I made. Had it as leftovers today - I was like a whole new woman.
I am dog sitting my friend’s two maltipoos this weekend. My usually antisocial dog absolutely adores them. It has been bedlam since I brought them home earlier. It’s nice to have snuggly pups around, but way too much craziness for my small house.

So for a race billed as "runnable single track" on terrain I'd call rolling...I can just wear my road shoes and not worry about it? It does have the potential be sloppy as hell if it's a wet spring.

I have finally started to lose weight again after stalling for about 10 months (and simply maintaining part of that time). Over 20 pounds in 18 months. I lose soooo slowly!

I’m working on adjusting to what life is throwing at me. It’s been over 2 months now and I am going back and forth with feeling fine with the way things are going with a reduced workout load and feeling like I need more. The good thing about this is that I rediscovered running after almost a year of taking a break.

I finished PT for my hip bursitis! As a celebration, I registered for two 5ks this weekend. Of course, after registering for the one on Sunday, I find out that there is a 90% chance of rain and it's going to be pretty nasty. Oh, well. As long as I can stay on my feet, I'll be okay.
I'm sorry scm1011!!! I hope the weather turns out ok for you. Super storm Sandy hit right after my marathon in 2012 and the weather wasn't really too bad.
So I had to take the last few days off to rest my calf. It's driving me fucking bonkers. I feel like my life is just work, kids, chores, sleep. Not having running as my fun outlet is making me bummed. H and I have been in a rut lately. We get zero time to just reconnect. We haven't had a date night in forever.

Thanks! Hopefully it won't be too bad. Looks like 30 mph sustained winds now, but the rain should hold off until I'm done. I'm glad I abandoned my goal to go for a sub-4 - just going to take it in stride, because what can you do? Better than another case of the pukes at least!
I hear you on the rut. I often feel the same, and it seems like the only thing DH and I talk about these days is DS. I hope you get a date night soon.
