Monday vents and celebrations and randoms

Vent- I have to go to work. I really don't want to.

Celebration- overall we had a really great weekend.

Celebrate : Great weekend. I slept until 8 both days, which I haven't done in 15 years. I think I am in hibernation mode with the cold weather.

Vent : I have about $32000 in grant funds for one of my counties. I am trying to get rid of the money, for effective substance abuse related issues. You'd think, giving people money would be easy. I can't even get people to a meeting. If they can't even care enough to show up, I have no problem turning it back in at the end of the grant.

Vent(s) - this morning so far, I've gone through 3 pairs of tights, forgot my parking pass, my badge, and DS's nap stuff for DC. Should have stayed in bed.

Celebration - we had a great weekend:

a bit of a vent about this TMNT costume - the shell come with velcro to put it on his shoulders, but any kid who actually fits this costume will have shoulders too wide for the shell velcro to fit the shoulder velcro.  I don't think it's a problem of a small shell/med costume either, because you'd have to be 18 mo and the shell would be taller than the kid.  Hence DS is wearing his shell back pack instead

Celebration - Great weekend. Super busy, but also superfun.

Vent - we have another roofing company coming tonight. Like, why can't they just take their measurements and give us a damn quote? DO. NOT. WANT. to sit through your 45 minutes presentation on f*cking roofing materials. You all use the same s#it. Invading our home from 6-8pm on a week night with a 3yo and a 9mo is a gosh damn disaster. So when my kids start winding up around 7 as they are wont to do? Take that as a cue to wrap up and leave.

Celebration: I feel like DD is handling the transition off her SSRI better than expected.

Vent: DH is handling it worse. Seriously, dude, this is hard for her. Yelling at her is not going to help. I know sometimes her behavior is challenging, but give a little grace, please. Long term that will keep her anxiety lower than if you fuss at her all the time.

Vent: It was so hard to get up and go to work this morning. Also, DH and I were gone for a long weekend, and I left a full page of information for my parents, who were taking care of the kids while we were gone. Obviously they didn't read it, because they said, "oh, we didn't realize we needed to put out the blankets for DD for when she comes down at night," and a couple other things. Oh well, I guess at least everyone survived and was fed, rested, and healthy when we got home.

Celebration: DH and I had a great long weekend trip. We went to WDW to go to the Food & Wine Festival, which was amazing. We ate our way around the Worlds at Epcot on Friday. When we left around 7, there was no way I could eat one more thing that day. On top of a great trip, all of our flights departed on time and landed 10-20 minutes early, which was amazing. Not sure if that's typical for Southwest (that was my first experience with Southwest), but if it is, we're definitely flying with them again. (Although we'll probably pay a little extra to check in early next time, because we were in the B boarding group for all 4 flights.)

DH had a vasectomy on Friday, so we stuck around the house this past weekend. I'm sad that our baby making days are done, but excited for the kids to get a little older so we can take some fun trips (like Yellowstone and Disney).
My parents were nice to take DD for the weekend since they were watching my niece.
DS1 is terrible when he is tired. I met my parents for dinner on Saturday and he was a nightmare. Even my dad was getting angry and it takes a lot for that to happen.
DS2 is sleeping terribly again with 3+ wakeups per night. I think it is a combo of teething and a cold. Whatever it is, I am beat. I think he is getting some tylenol before bed tonight.

Vent: DD's sleep continues to be pure shit and will only sleep when held, which could be reflux or she just likes being held. She's mostly formula fed now so I'm getting some of the acid reflux formula today to try tonight. Her pedi doesn't think she has it since she's staying on her growth curve and WAS sleeping. She got her first formula bottle in the MOTN when I was at my wit's end after a month of sleepless nights, so the formula isn't to blame. I need whatever it is to end though.

Celebration: DH got up with her without me even having to ask! I'm still shocked. He does not to MOTN. Ever.

Vent: I am so tired and behind at work

Celebration: We survived both DS's family and friends birthday parties this weekend, and he had a blast.

Vent: If you RSVP for a kid's birthday party you should show up, we invited his whole class, and were missing like 5 of the people who RSVP'ed yes.

phdmomma , I totally agree.  Any parent understands things come up, but they could've at least texted or emailed you to let you know.  DS missed a birthday party last year due to having a migraine the night before (we wanted him to rest for a day), but DH dropped off a gift and told the parents DS was really bummed he couldn't come to the party.

Celebration: Enjoyed my "mom's weekend". Cleaned house last night so it was nice to wake up to a clean house.

Vents: Because of said Mom's weekend H thought he had to go out to. Problem is he just did that 2 nights last week. And he was a total jerk this morning. Grow up dammit. Ah that felt better

Celebration: Today is our anniversary! Lucky number 13. 

Vent: We've been so busy lately that we're not doing anything to really celebrate tonight. I actually don't care though, since it would be one more stressor to try to fit in. 

Random: I really don't want to be at work today. My focus is completely gone, so I'm not going to get anything done besides surfing the internet and zoning out. I slept 8 hours last night, I'm not sure why I'm so out of it today. I'm going to run at lunch and see if the cold air/exercise helps.

DH is in town for the first full week since last September (except Christmas). He will be here for our Halloween party. He also swears he won’t travel the week of Thanksgiving and will come with us to the beach.

TBD if this is a vent or a celebration!!! Haha - so far celebration - Starbucks was waiting for me and he walked the kids to school in the cold. DTD tally is at two so far, so that’s looking up. It helps when he is present, you know!?

Celebration: We had a mellow weekend. I love mellow weekends.

Vent: After almost a year of flirting with the idea, I got my eyebrows microbladed this weekend. The results are... very dark, which is to be expected, but I don't feel like me. I know after a few days the color will start to fade and look less dramatic, but I feel like a clown. It's gotten better every day - right after they were done, I was shocked, yesterday I was very embarrassed by how I looked, and today, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel - as long as I don't look too closely. But yeah, the next two weeks should be fun.

Vent 2: After a week and a half, the new dishwasher broke. It still works, but one of the pieces isn't staying put, so closing it requires a lot of precision. At least it's under warranty?

Vents all around here.

Major wind and rain storm blew in last night, resulting in no school, widespread power outages, and a general mess. I was supposed to work til 12, then go to a doctor appointment and wfh this afternoon. But the office couldn't even open this morning, so I said screw it and will likely be burning a bunch of vacation time to take the day off with no power.

And, doctor appointment is to review lab tests to figure out thyroid issues and potential celiac stuff. So, that sucks.

Yes to the vent.  OMG.  DD cried for 10 minutes when her friend didn't come to DS's party.  At least F-ing text me that someone is sick FFS.  Even if you aren't sick and just blowing me off at least pretend, so I have something to tell DD who was devastated.  

Note to self never tell her people are coming for sure to something.  That was a hard lesson to learn as a parent.  I mean I know it as an adult, but for a kids to learn.  Sucks.

covergirl82, waverly, We ended up with a ton of extra gift bags and cupcakes. I appreciate that the friends who did show are kids that I know he really likes and plays with. However, it would have been nice to have gotten an email or something from the other parents. This is the second year that we've had barely any kids and lots of no shows. I'm thinking next year that maybe we take him on a special trip instead for his birthday (I remember one mom on here who was doing that).

We still had 20 people show up, so that was lucky, but she was really looking forward to that one friend, and I told her mom that too which makes it worse.

We are doing a trip for DD's birthday.  Next year will be her class party.  And then neither kid is getting a class party again. 

They can invite 1-2 friends over for drop off for their birthday and that is it in the future.  Maybe a bigger drop off party at the house later on but no more than 5 kids.

phdmomma , don’t even get me started on the birthday parties. We only had 3 RSVPs at the most for his last two classes with 20+ Kids. That’s $100 a head not including DS! I think I talked him into going to Great Wolf Lodge in the Dells (not sure why he wants to go to the Dells but I think he saw it on YouTube) for the weekend. Unfortunately his 1st Communion is on his birthday this year so we may have to move it a week but I’d rather spend $300 on that than a party where no one fricking RSVPs/shows.

We had a really good weekend. We all went to the outlet mall on Saturday. It was a long day but fun with everyone getting something they wanted. Then we ordered takeout for dinner. Sunday we had mass for DD’s Confirmation and then I went grocery shopping. I spontaneously cleaned my fridge and freezer and put away all of the winter coats and accessories that we got out now that it’s cold. We also got a ton of laundry done.

On Sunday we received word that my uncle passed away. He was only 71 and was my Dad’s middle brother. My Dad’s youngest brother also has terminal cancer although I’m not sure how much longer he has. I don’t know either of them well but have memories of them from when I was a kid. I’m so sad for his wife and family. Cancer can suck it.

justcheckingin73, so sorry to hear about your uncle's passing. My 69 year old aunt (dad's sister) has stage 4 cancer, so I'm with you on feeling that cancer can suck it.

Random: When DH and I were waiting at Chicago-Midway for our connecting flight last Thursday, a drug and bomb sniffing dog came through. I wasn't worried about the dog sniffing our bags, but I told DH that if his mom comes with us to WDW next year, and she happens to be on the same flights as us, she is on her own if the drug-sniffing dog smells something on her bags. (She has been known to smoke pot; that was the reason she was fired from her last job (which was about 7 years ago now) - she had a workplace injury and it came up in a test when she went to the occ health clinic.) And if we get detained with her, there will be hell to pay. So I suggested to DH that he give her fair warning.

Celebration - we had a really good weekend, no complaints.

Vent - DS has a cold and is teething hard. Little sleep and so cranky

Celebration: on both Saturday and Sunday, DS and DD got up as usual at 7 in the morning, but they both just went to the bonus room and played lego together quietly for an hour until DH and I got up. DS even went and got milk and cereal for DD as breakfast. We were stunned.

Another celebration: DS scored at his soccer game and played really well. This is the same kid who refused to go chase the ball ALL of last season.

Vent: we are trying to get our flooring done for the basement but the flooring company won't call me back. I've now called them 3 times!

Weekend was survival. I battled a migraine plus my back is killing me. DD's allergies plus her new top front teeth poked through equaled a sneezing snotty mess all weekend. She still rode but was miserable by the end due to all the dust and I don't think she retained anything from the lesson at all. Bowling party was okay but very loud and by the time I got back home I just wanted to cry. DD and I watched SING and ate soup for dinner. By the time DH got back from paintballing he ate dinner and then we did pumpkins and DD went to bed way later than I wanted so she didn't want to get up this morning. I really hate Monday mornings.

I want to skip Halloween tomorrow for a quiet night at home maybe I can talk DD into just ToTing around our house instead of Grandma's neighborhood, the church harvest party, and our neighborhood.

justcheckingin73, If you are in the Dells you may want to think about the Kalahari also. We've done Great Wolf, and although it is fun, its really divided into different rooms/areas. When we did the Kalahari, it's one big room, with smaller areas, and little kid stuff by the big kid stuff. Which is nice when we go as an extended family around Christmas (instead of buying gifts for DH's family, we spring for a giant family suite overnight there and take everyone). Although it can also be a bit overwhelming there, and they are a bit crazy about the kids needing to wear life jackets.

Good to know. Thanks! I’m actually ok with them requiring life jackets since that’s something that wakes me up at night when I think about it.

Weekend was ok. DD1 has been having behavioral issues after weeks of solid behavior. It was bad enough that we had to miss her soccer game. I'm bummed. I thought we'd turned a corner.

Yesterday I went to an NFL game because my sister was in town and she asked me to go. My mom was supposed to babysit so that DH could go too, but she changed her mind and went to the game. Ok, I thought, quality time with my sister, her fiancé worked at the game so wouldn't be around.

When I got there, I found out that my sister and her friend would be up in a suite, as would my parents. And I would be chaperoning my 15 year old nephew and his buddy. Who is great, but a 15-year-old kid... not really chatty with his 42-year-old aunt. Did I mention that it poured for 1/2 the game? But my sister didn't care - she was in a suite.

I feel ungrateful because they were once in a lifetime seats with field passes, but I went to spend time with my sister. I told her I didn't want to go, but she begged me to go WITH HER. My nephew wanted to come, his parents didn't, and that stadium is not the right place for a couple of 15 year olds alone. So I was the unwitting chaperone. I would have preferred spending time at home with my family, nursing my cold that got worse in the rain. But whatever. One more family thing.

Celebration- looking forward to TorTing tomorrow. 🎃

See, that's where I feel guilty. The seats were AMAZING. We got to go ON THE FIELD and I met a player. But I was basically there alone, not with my sister - the whole reason I said yes in the first place.

I have to go gluten free and have a bunch of other autoimmune crap going on. So, I'm glad to have a diagnosis and know what is causing all my issues. But also now mourning the loss of delicious carbs in my life.
