My sister got a Gizmo for my niece for her last birthday... when she turned 8 (I think) I know that they do have Verizon. I'm not exactly sure if she lets her wear it all the time or if there are rules against it in school? She got it primarily because my niece wanted to ride her bike to school which is like a 1/2 mile from their house. I think it can call 5 numbers? I guess I don't know that much about them
We got one for our daughter (7 yo) when we moved in March. It is 100% the best thing we did. It gives her a bit of freedom and saves me from yelling her name up and down the street when I need her to come home. The app shows me exactly where she is at any given moment. If she doesn’t answer within a few rings, it automatically connects so I can speak with her and hear what’s going on. It can call myself or my husband, I think it only allows two numbers. We have Verizon as our regular carrier, so we pay $5/month for the line.

I don't have a need for one yet but it is something I'll consider when she is a little older. As for now she is either with us or at school so no need.
I bought one for my 9 year old in September because he wanted to ride his bike to school. I love it. He loves it. Hands down the best $5 a month I spend. He can call/get calls from 10 numbers that I pre-approve. It also has the ability to set alarms - so I have it set for him to take his daily inhaler. The kids can also respond to your texts (you must text via the app) using predetermined phrases or send you a voice message.
I think Verizon is the only company to offer this.

Nice, thanks! Did you already have service with Verizon? I guess I’m wondering if I’ll be able to do just a phone watch for $5/mo or if I’ll get charged more bc my other phones aren’t with them.
My husband did, so we didn't have to deal with starting a new service. Sorry I can't help you there! But I can confirm after you buy the phone ($150 for the more deluxe version) it really is only $5 a month.
