Audrey Quinn finally decided to show up 12/1 at 10:35 pm after being at the hospital since Wednesday morning! She was 6 pounds, 12 ounces and 19 inches. Had a bit of a scare right after she was born, she wasn't really breathing, so they had to help her a bit. It was a bit of a rough night with that, plus her blood sugars have been low and temp low, so she's in "special care" which is sort of like NICU but she gets to stay in the room. She's in a box (can't remember what it's called) to help her maintain her temp and she's getting extra monitoring. But minus that, we're both doing pretty well! So far my recovery has been a lot better this time, I'm just a little weak/out of it from the magnesium. And I'm exhausted because every time we tried to fall asleep last night something would start beeping or she'd start crying.. ugh, lol. So hoping for a nap at some point!
That's cool that they're letting her stay in your room with the incubator. That is auto NICU admit at my old hospital and my new one.
Yeah, she was really close to being sent to NICU! I suppose this is like an incubator, I remembered now after seeing the label they called it a Giraffe if that's the same. She was on the warming table last night for a while but that wasn't doing it for her. Her temps have been better now and we're trying to get her blood sugars up but go figure that BFing isn't going how I hoped again. We're having to use a shield (which I HATE) and pump but at least this time there's a little something there instead of nothing with E!
I used a nursing shield with C for the first few weeks. I think by about 2 months I was able to nurse her without one. Glad it's working for ya so far.

I don't know if I'd say it's working, lol. She did latch to the shield but today she hasn't really so I've been trying to see what I can pump. Hopefully I don't end up with a supply issue again. I'm hoping the fact that there's a little there already is a good sign. They think she's just sleepy from the meds so maybe once her blood sugars are up she'll figure it out. Who knows!
Congratulations. So pink and perfect! So glad you are all past the scary parts. Make your husband pump and nurse while you sleep... If only. Lol. Hope you get a nap
They just took her to the nicu a bit ago. Her blood sugars are staying really low. About 10 min later, H brought E in to see me and he was sad he wasn't getting to meet his baby sister yet.. ugh. Our parents are here so we'll have to figure out who's watching E while we go down there since he can't go. They're trying to get me off the magnesium but after all this my blood pressure was up a bit of course. So, just hoping she's ok and it's just the shock of everything that happened at birth and the meds I was on.
((Hugs)) estrellita. That’s hard but she’s also in good hands and getting the help and care she needs. Praying for you guys. C didn’t get to come to the hospital at all when L was born...I spent 3 nights and didn’t get to see him at all. It was SO hard but looking back I am grateful I had that time to just focus on L and myself.

Yea, the Giraffe is a type of incubator. I love them, so easy to use.
I'm sorry feedings aren't going as well as you like. So frustrating! I agree, it's good at least there's a little there this time!
It's very possible that the magnesium is making her sleepy, and likely contributed to the initial breathing issues. Magnesium sucks. As it leaves her system, she should perk up.
I know it's hard, but try to get some rest while she's in the nicu. It's harder to take care of her if you don't take care of yourself. Remember that.

Thank you! We're visiting her now and let grandparents, auntie and E meet her. E was the only one to "hold" her for a quick picture. I was so happy they got to meet! Now I'm sitting here unsure what to do. I should pump, but I want to stay with her. I see a pump here but not sure if there are parts for me to use. My mind is all jumbled from the meds and exhaustion and everything going on. Her last glucose was 60 though which is the highest she's had so I'm hopeful she won't be here too long!

Glucose of 60 is awesome! Is she on a sugar drip? Or being supplemented?
Ask for pump parts. They'll have them available and I'm surprised they haven't already brought you some.
Get some rest! Even if you're in her room, just rest and watch her. But definitely try to sleep tonight, between feedings.

Supplementing. She took a bottle for me while everyone was there and drank the whole thing! They've given her a little sugar water here and there but they wanted to hold off on the IV or tube feeding. I went back to my room to pump and eat dinner. I'm going to lay down here for a little bit then head down there for her next feeding to try BFing again (with or without the shield) and bring my pump parts from my room to pump there. I'm hoping they can get me off this magnesium soon because I'm sick of being hooked up to the IV and feeling so out of it! I honestly feel pretty good other than feeling like I'd fall over if I walked too much, lol.
She's been doing well with her blood sugars and temps so hopefully she'll leave the nicu today! We might go home today too if everything goes well. I finally got free from my IV so I'm feeling a little more human which is nice. Just tired of course and trying not to get frustrated about BFing issues!
Thanks for asking! She's doing well! As far as I know all her checks have been fine so there shouldn't be any reason we wouldn't go home today. Just having some BFing issues I posted on MMM about but we're great otherwise! Just need the pedi to come around and give us the ok to go home. I'm so ready for my own bed and to see E again, I miss him like crazy!
We are! E just got back a bit ago too and it's so nice to just be home and with him again. I'm a little nervous about being a family of 4 but we'll figure things out as we go

Glad you guys are all home together! It’s an awesome feeling! It’s also a hard adjustment, especially for E, but you guys will find your groove soon enough (and it was a much easier transition than 0-1 for me at least...I think DH has felt the impact of 1-2 more).
