I actually really dislike shopping at Ulta. There are 3 I go to depending on if I’m home, near work, or need certain stores only around the third Ulta. My experience at all 3 is the same: loooong lines, few cashiers, no one in the store to show me fun products or give me suggestions on using things or finding the right color / texture for me. Ulta is super solitary for me, whereas my 2 Sephoras are filled with warm and helpful people who seem excited about it.

That said, I do almost all my shopping now at Ulta because Sephora’s points/rewards system is  stupid af and virtually fecking useless.  Ulta makes better use of my monies for me and is more generous about coupons.

I really miss a particular salesperson at my old Ulta (he left before I did). I went in there a few months before I got married, told him I was looking for a lipstick to wear that day, and he walked me over a few aisles to pull a specific one. And yes, I wore it and loved it! I don’t think I could replicate that shopping experience now.

mortomo I think it looks great. Can you post a pic of the complete ingredients list? Google is failing me and I am super sensitive to coconut oil derived ingredients, in particular caprylic/capric triglyceride.

seriously. Ulta always seems to shake the first half a year. I’m a Jan Birthday and before this not great one there’ were TWO years, back to back, of a small benefit porefessional as the gift.

One of those years others got a full size urban decay eyeshadow.

bowies, in years past, I got the birthday email a few days before my birthday. This past July, it didn't show up until AFTER my birthday. Like a week later or something.

At least the Sephora gift is good.... I just got my postcard. I think I'm going to pick the Glam Glow set, I've never used anything from them. And this might get me kicked off this board, but I have one full sized bite lipstick and one deluxe sample and I don't love either of them.

I already have an orgasm blush (full size), this reminded me that I even have one ( I really need to better organize my makeup, but that's a different story...).  calico, when June roles around if you want my mini, it's yours Just remind me.  

I think last year ours was a Lancôme Mascara, which eh.

I’m honestly so mad about the January birthday gifts. They are always so crappy. I think I’m going to email them to make myself feel better. Lip oil is better than porefessional, but I don’t want Ulta brand crap. I’m glad I signed my husband up for Ulta rewards a couple of years ago bc he has a June birthday.

So on top of a flu induced sinus infection, I have pinkeye. Now I have to trash my mascara:-( And I use a different one on top and bottom so that extra sucks. I was using a Lancôme Monsieur Big sample that still had a lot of uses left, but at least it was a sample. The first time I wore it my husband thought I had on false lashes and he never mentions my lashes, so that’s a pretty good result. I used my Ulta birthday $10 to buy a full size and I’m soooo glad I had not opened it yet! I also have another sample from a Sephora sample pack:-) Basically if anyone is looking for a new mascara to try, give it a go. I think I like it better than my HG mascara Chanel volume de Chanel. And it’s cheaper!

I've been through several - UD Perversion, Tarte lights camera, Too Faced BTS.  Powders I've tried have been NYX setting powder, Milani Ready Prep Glow, MUFE, and Laura Geller.

followyourarrow , definitely try a mascara primer. It's the only way I can get the non-waterproof mascaras to stay on.

ETA: I use UD Perversion and Too Faced BTS and mascara primer keeps them on like whoa. No raccoon eyes!

followyourarrow, have you tried using a tubing mascara, like Blinc? I know there are some drugstore ones too, but I've never tried them.

I switched back to using MAC Prep and Prime after using TF Hangover Rx for about a month and my face didn't like it. I'm sad because I stocked up during a sale and I'm not even sure if I can still return. I have 2 more bottles of it. Ugh.

followyourarrow, I have the same issue with my mascara. I started using a Cover Girl tube mascara, and the raccoon eyes aren't as bad, but my lashes look wimpy (I like BIG lashes).


What mascara primer do y'all recommend so I can go back to Too Faced BTS?

pooh8402, if you liked the concept of tubing mascara, try the Blinc Amplified mascara. I like big lashes too and this one helps me achieve the same results that I get from TF. With tubing mascara, it's all about the brush and the formula.

I’ve found if I used tube mascara on the bottom lashes I’m good. Then I can use most mascara on top- except TF better than sex. That is the most raccoon mascara ever! I like more volume on my top lashes than tube masaca gives, but I’ve found this trick works well.

I haven't tried the BLINC tubing mascara - adding that to my list. I do love the Clinique Lash Power which also tubes. Mascara primers don't do anything for me. When I try to use it, it just makes it impossible to get a good application of mascara on top.
