I finished Rapture in Death last weekend (3 1/5*), I like the series. They may not be awesome, but they are enjoyable.
I am reading The Scribe of Siena, should finish today. A lot of the books I have read lately involve time travel, but I am enjoying it, so why stop? It will be book 5 out of my goal of 40.
QOTW: We do both. I love to cruise, so that is at least a week and only want to travel to Europe for a week or more - one of those probably happens every 18 months. But we will do weekend or 3/4 day getaways to Vegas, Niagara wine country, or a larger city. I do take a couple of days off each year to lay around my house doing nothing.
I just finished Who Thought this was a Good Idea by Alyssa Mastromonaco. I liked it. It’s fun to read about someone, and by someone the same age I am. ...
Glad you liked it! I have it on my Kindle to read on my upcoming trip (after We Should All be Feminists for book club.)
I'm reading Silent Spring - an old $0.95 copy my Dad credited for helping him choose his profession and becoming an environmentalist. It's interesting to think about how important it was to the early environmental movement, although fortunately many of the specific pesticides are no longer applied so indiscriminately.
I'm listening to the 3rd book in Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series (The Cruelest Month).
I'm still reading Little Women and today I started Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts. I've always enjoyed her trilogies.
QOTW: My job is pretty stressful and I try to take time for myself as much as possible. I don't get paid vacation days. But I take off the full week of July 4th (Saturday to the following Sunday) to go on vacay with my family. I also try to do a few long weekends throughout the year.
I read Y: The Last Man, Vol. 5, which was much better than the last volume. I'm still working on Joe Hill's The Fireman, which is LONG, but I'm liking it so far, but I have to keep reminding myself to not compare his writing to his dad's writing. Plus I started The Sympathizer, which I need to finish by this upcoming weekend for my book club - it started off really weird and slow and I wasn't digging it, but it's starting to get better.
QOTW: I don't work anymore, so basically I want to vacation whenever I can convince my H to take days off to travel somewhere that isn't visiting family. LOL! His preference is to take a giant staycation for several weeks in December, which I don't think of as a vacation at all (when I worked, I preferred to work through the holidays because everything was quiet and lazy, and to take vacation days during the summer when it was actually a break from hectic times).
But this year we are taking 17 days and going to Australia for our 15th wedding anniversary (although with travel and date changes, we'll really only be there 14 days). I basically make my H do a big international trip every 5 years, and he balks the entire time I'm planning, but has fun once we get there.
Just finished The Mother of Black Hollywood by Jenifer Lewis . I really liked it; it was gossipy in a good way and funny yet she did get into her bipolar disorder. She did leave out some more recent stuff that had made the news about her life which was a little odd.
No trips planned yet! I prefer a really long vacation if possible but weekend trips are okay. My husband is starting a new job next week. I am going to a conference in NYC next month and am going up a bit early so I can wander around.
