The technique I use is to lift my eyelid and try (my best) to line the base of my lash line. I am currently using an Hourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eyeliner which I love but I go through it too quickly.
Can you recommend a good product(s) that will be good for a newbie like me? The LM Tightline product seems popular but I am a little nervous I won’t be able to do a good job applying it on the base of my lashes (or maybe I just used a crappy flat brush?)
I use the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon which looks very similar but Sephora says it has .01 ounces vs. Hourglass' .002 ounces, so maybe it lasts longer? It goes on easily enough, I just lift my eyelid and swipe it on while looking the other direction.
I love the hourglass as well but it runs out so fast. My second favorite product is the Laura mercier. Make sure you get a tightline brush to use with it. It stays better than even the hourglass for me

What brush do you use? I'm eyeing the LM or Sigma one...<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/4be0066f/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/4be0066f/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>SaveSave

The Laura Mercier brush and tightline cake powder are awesome but it's a little fussy in terms of the amount of effort that goes into it. I'm currently using the Marc Jacobs pencil and that's a nice dark line and takes seconds to do so it's my default technique these days
